Question about platforms on wheels

Hi!

I require your help regarding a problem I’m encountering.

Description:
Dear all,
I’m an artist and I’m working on an installation and set design for a new performance.
I would like to create a ballet of curtains. Three curtains mounted each on a robot platform with wheel that can move as a choreography on a theater stage. I’m aware of the fact that it will be important that i make the curtains as light as possible. What kind of platform would you advice me? I think the easiest way to control them is teleguided?
Thanks for all your tips and tricks.

Stefan

Hi @StefanJakiela and welcome to the forum
this is quite an interesting project.
I immediately thought of mecanum wheels
The link is just one of many options based on these wheels (omniwheel is another)

Do you want the robots to perform preprogrammed choreography or control each one individually?

Hello @StefanJakiela and welcome to the RobotShop community!

I’m going to list some tutorials that I think might be relevant for your project:

As you mentioned, you will probably need a wheeled platform.
As o_lampe suggested, I think mecanum wheels would be great for your project but there are other nice options as well. In that tutorial you can also check what tread type is best for your robot (I’m assuming is a wooden floor so I guess flat rubber wheels)
You will probably need a medium platform, in that tutorial you can check an estimate of the budget for that type of build.

This tool might come in handy for choosing the motors for your robot (in case you are planning on building it or getting a chassis kit) or to look for certain motors in the platform you’ll get.

And here are the section you should be looking in to:

Some kits only include the chassis, other include the motors, and the electronics. So you need to choose one according to your needs.

About the control, I’m not sure if the best option for a choreography would be teleguided. I think the best would be pre-programming it. Either way, if you opt for the first option you’ll need a RC motor controller and a remote. And if you want to program them you’ll need a microcontroller or single-board computer.

I hope that helps
