I have done everything you have here. The yellow light stars on solid after reset and unit tries to do a 360, it stops and starts and the yellow lights starts blinking. It never finds the home position. It keeps coming on and moving maybe an inch the wrong way. It now is moving about 3 inches and then back, but never to home.
Hi,
Based on the description of the yellow light blinking while the cycle has been interrupted, please follow the troubleshooting below to determine whether the issue is due to excess weight, the bonnet connection, or the Anti-Pinch safety feature:
*The blinking yellow light will switch to blinking red after 2 minutes if the cat sensor (CATS) has been continuously activated by excess weight. Please remove excess weight and check your unit for the following:
- The litter is above the fill line or in excess of 10lbs.
- The cat sensor has not been reset after adding weight
- The waste drawer has too much weight
- The unit is sitting on an uneven surface - grout lines on a tile floor or in a bathtub.
- The unit is pushed into a corner, against a wall, or furniture
- Objects are resting or pressing on the unit
I find my litter robot iii frozen in the same spot mid cycle. If I turn it off and back on, it completes the cycle and works fine for a while. Iāve tried all the basic troubleshooting and everything seems fine. Any suggestions?
Hi James,
Another thing you may try is to follow this simple guide here : click here
Hello - when my litter robot cycles, it reaches the point mid-cycle where it is supposed to reverse direction but instead of reversing direction it pauses briefly, then continues to cycle for several inches then stops completely, all the while the yellow light is blinking. I reset it as recommended but keeps happening. Help!
Hi, It seems that there is an issue with the hall effect sensor (globe position sensor). You may have to get it replaced. Please contact us through our Domestique Robots Support Center for further help.
Iām getting the YELLOW->BLUE->RED sequence out of box on the first calibration cycle. Same with or without litter. The KEY in the back is properly seated and the track is properly aligned. It appears to go through a full proper cycle and return to home properly. If I press reset the blue/ready lights up I can trigger a timing sequence by emulating and cat and the auto cycle will complete successfully. Only the home/dump position is not detected, but from what I can tell everything is working properly.
Its a refurbished unit, so Iām a little disappointed as this would have been checked by QA twice.
@Chris Hi Chris,
If the Open Air unit cannot find Dump and/or Home position, the control panel will display 3 lights blinking. If you have recently disassembled your globe please advise.
Please remove the globe and check the black gear connected to the motor. When you press on the black gear with your finger, does it seem loose or freeāspinning? If so, please follow the instructions for tightening the set screw, here: http://litterrobot.kayako.com/Knowledgebase/Article/View/85/41/litter-robot--free-moving-gear-solution
When replacing the globe onto the base, make certain that the track around the outside of the globe is properly aligned into the groove on the base.
If the unit is plugged into a power strip, try plugging it directly into a wall. Sometimes the issue is caused by a fluctuating power supply, low voltage, or other power issues.
My LRIII will not come on. It cycled and got stuck. I reset it and that didnāt work. I unplugged the power cord from the wall and the unit and plugged it back in. Now it will not come on but the panel in the front is warm. I have taken the bonnet off to make sure the electronic connection it good. I have vacuumed out the LR and the slots on the side of the bonnet where the electronics are located. I have checked to make sure the key is in position. What would o do next? Still does not turn on.
@Susan
Hi, if the Litter-Robot panel is not powering up and no lights are flashing, it means there is probably an issue with the DFI sensors, especially if the control panel becomes warm. We suggest in that case you replace the DFI sensors. Click here for more details.
Hi, I have had an open air liter robot for several months and just did a complete cleaning on it. I have looked and the black key is in place but when the robot does a cleaning cycle the shield makes a clicking noise partway through and then just swings loose and hangs around the bottom of the robot. It gets in the way of the waste as itās trying to make its way out of the robot into the drawer. How do I get it to stay in place?
@Liz
In order to help you troubleshoot this specific issue, Litter-Robot has made a good video tutorial.

This will allow you to fix the issue with the internal shield.
After a fresh start (everything in the correct position and then plug in), my unit keeps rotating 1 way, even after it passed the position where it should be reversing the rotation. I saw the post from Aug 13, 2017 above, and took the advice to replace the wire harness. I made sure that the Hall effect sensor was installed correctly. However, the problem has not been solved. When plugged in, the unit still kept rotating 1 way for more than 180 degrees, then stopped and the yellow light flashed. Please help!
Hello we just started using the litter robot and we are noticing that every time our cats get into to it and start moving around, the device is making a loud plastic slapping noise. The first few times they got into it the device didnāt make this noise. I made sure the device is not close to any way or obstructions. I ended up waiting until one of my cats were done using it and realized that the internal shield is slapping against the top as the cats move around inside. Is there a solution to this? Itās pretty annoying especially at 3am when they are using the litter box. I thought about putting a small piece of foam on the backside of the internal shield to make the noise less pronounced. Thanks in advance.
@Kevin
Since you already replaced the Sensor Harness, the issue could possibly be due to a defective Motherboard.
@Jonathan
You may follow this simple guide to verify if the internal shield is well in place.
In the worst case, you may just remove the internal shield completely. Litter-Robot is suggesting customers with issues to remove the internal shield since it is not essential for the good functioning of the unit.
If you remove the internal shield, do not forget to cover the small hole in the globe.
As I commented earlier (see post on January 6, 2018), my Open Air unit rotates one way and does not reverse rotation. After I replaced the Sensor Harness, it behaved exactly the same. Now I have ordered a new circuit board as advised. When I received the new circuit board I noticed that it is slightly different from the old one - there is a battery that is not present in the old circuit board, and the sockets (J1, J2, J3 and J4) are oriented differently. I replaced the old circuit board with the new one (plugged in J1, J2 and J3), reassembled the unit, and turned it on, now the unit does not rotate and the yellow light flashes quickly (twice a second). There was no response when I pressed the reset or other buttons. Only the power button responded (on and off). Why is the new circuit board look different? How do I fix this? Thanks.
My open air doesnāt seem to be cycling on its own, no error lights and itās away from a wall and on a flat solid surface. When I push the button it cycles perfectlyā¦any suggestions?
Hi Kevin,
We suggest you contact us via the support center and provide pictures of both circuit board so we can troubleshoot further.
Hi Teri,
Please check your unit for the following:
- The litter is above the fill line or in excess of 10lbs.
- CATS has not been reset after adding weight
- The waste drawer has too much weight
- The unit is sitting on an uneven surface ā grout lines on a tile floor or in a bathtub.
- The unit is pushed into a corner, against a wall, or furniture
- Objects are resting or pressing on the unit
Always press Reset after emptying the waste drawer, adding litter, or moving the unit. You can also turn the unit OFF then ON to ensure the baseline is set properly. When pressing Reset, watch for the blue light to quickly flash one time. This indicates CATS has been successfully reset.
Another test you can try is by manually triggering the cat sensor. By pushing on the top of the globe with your hands you should be able to trigger the red light. If not, advice us via our support center so we can troubleshoot further.
