Litter-Robot III Open Air Basic Troubleshooting Guide | RobotShop Community

I emptied the unit yesterday and cleaned it and put in clean litter, and now, every time it runs, it gets half way through the cycle, then the red light starts blinking. I finally managed to get it to return to the home position once yesterday, but woke up to it in the half way point with the red light flashing again, and now I can’t get it to go back to home position.

@Annette

Please check your unit for the following:

  • The litter is above the fill line or in excess of 10lbs.
  • CATS has not been reset after adding weight
  • The waste drawer has too much weight
  • The unit is sitting on an uneven surface ‐ grout lines on a tile floor or in a bathtub.
  • The unit is pushed into a corner, against a wall, or furniture
  • Objects are resting or pressing on the unit

The red blinking light indicates CATS (the cat sensor) is detecting excess weight for more than 2 minutes. To test your changes, power the unit off and then on. Allow the unit to complete the start‐up cycle and return Home with a solid blue light. Your unit is operating normally. If it continues to flash, let us know so we can troubleshoot further.

Always press Reset after emptying the waste drawer, adding litter, or moving the unit. You can also turn the unit OFF then ON to ensure the baseline is set properly. When pressing Reset, watch for the blue light to quickly flash one time. This indicates CATS has been successfully reset.

If none of the above solves the issue:

  1. Remove the bonnet.
  2. Remove the globe
  3. Replace the bonnet
  4. Press Cycle (without the globe on the unit)
  5. Allow the motor to run for 5 seconds, at any point, does it stop and flash red? If no, then excess weight needs to be removed from the globe.
    If yes, (it blinks red), contact us via the support center so we may verify your warranty information.

The red light is still blinking even though I followed the troubleshooting instructions and removed the bonnet and globe. What should I try next??

Hi,

Since the cat sensor is an electronic part, it is possible that it has failed completely and it needs to be replaced.
If you are still under warranty with RobotShop, please contact us through our Domestic Support Center.

Or if you prefer to replace the cat sensor by yourself, click HERE for instructions.
You can buy the replacement part at a cheap price on our website HERE

My open air is occasionally rotating past the dump position. It will complete a full rotation to dump stop and before it starts to rotate to the home position will rotate about 3 inches past dump stop and the yellow light only starts to flash rapidly. Any suggestions?

@Ryan Durbin
This issue could be due to a defective Hall Effect Sensor. This sensor is responsible for the tracking of the globe’s position. if you have bought the unit with us, contact us via the support center so we can verify your warranty information. If not, contact us anyway so we can troubleshoot further.

I was wondering why my open air always has litter clumped to the bottom and sticks even when dumped. I use armor hammer hard clumping litter. Have 2 boxes and 4 cats.

The Litter-Robot has been designed to work with various types of litter, not just the premium clumping clay litters. The sifting screen is suitable for both clumping, scoopable clay litters as well as for alternative litters such as Litter Pearls, Crystals or World’s Best Cat Litter.

My cat is going in the Litter_Robot while it’s in motion. Is it supposed to stop?

@Kitty

Your Litter-Robot should stop automatically when a weight is added to the globe. Make sure your cat is at least 2.5KG since it may not be detected. There may be an issue with the cat sensor if you cannot manually trigger the red light. We suggest you contact us via the support center for further troubleshooting.

New litter robot open air: clean litter is going into the dunno tray asking with clumps. The dump tray is filling up every time the cats go in (which – and this is the good news – is pretty often because they took to it right away). However, if I don’t check it constantly, it fills up and stops the unit from operating.

Hi Julia,
The Litter-Robot is said to be good for 2 cats and the drawer should normally be emptied once or twice a week depending on the need. This is normal that if you have more cats, the drawer fills up a bit faster.

Hi, we have 2 litter open air’s. One started having a flashing yellow light after a cycle. And will no longer cycle after that. The red light never comes on after 2 mins. Just stays flashing yellow. Drawer is not full. If we reset it and cycle it - it will cycle normally, sometimes stopping slightly mid cycle but then continues. Full cycle happens and we get a blue light ready to go. But then next day same thing - blinking yellow light and no go until we reset it. Been happening for the past 5 days now.

I have a question. My litter robot 3 is not spinning. It shows up blue and yellow light at the same time. What should I do? Please help. Thanks in advance!

Hi,
It means that the 8 hours sleep mode has been activated.
‘‘To Deactivate it’’ just press and hold the ‘‘CYCLE’’ button for 5 seconds.

I am having issues with the air lll I just got in January 2018 with in going on and offline every few minutes. What is the fix? I have notifications every 3 to 15 minutes going off on my phone day and night.

My Litter-Robot Open Air is working great but several times a day I get notifications that it’s offline. Then a couple of minutes later it says it’s online. I’ve had it several months and this just started happening the last couple of days. It has always been in the same location. I know my internet is not going in and out because I can be watching my house camera when this happens and the camera is connected to my Wi-Fi. If I am at home when it happens, I immediately check to make sure it’s not the internet. Yesterday I received a message 14 times that it’s offline. Thank you for all your help.
