Litter-Robot III Open Air Basic Troubleshooting Guide | RobotShop Community

Hi, I have 2 litter robot 3, sudently they BOTH started to stop activating the cat sensor as soon as the night light turns on, the orange light turns on and flashes, if I turn on the room lights, the night light turns off has it should, and the robots resume normal operations. I now have to keep the Room Lights where the robots are always on so that the robots do their job at night. Why is this happening? And why they both now have this problem?

@Bruno Cerqueira,
This problem is probably because of a bad connection between the bonnet and the base. Please try the following :Hi,

Please try the following:

  1. Turn the Power Off and unplug the Power Supply from the Base of the unit.
  2. Remove the Bonnet from the unit and set it aside, then remove the Globe and set it aside making sure that it does not roll.
  3. Ensure the Base is properly situated on a hard level surface, that it is not pushed against a wall, and has nothing resting on it. Empty the Waste Drawer regardless of how much waste is collected.
  4. Put the Globe back on the unit and ensure that it is on the track. If you feel that the Globe is heavy to one side or another, check in the Litter Pocket to make sure that there is not wet or clumped litter stuck that is throwing off the weight of the unit during cycling. Ensure the Globe is filled to the Fill Line and not above the Fill Line.
  5. Replace the Bonnet ensuring all 4 tabs are in place and lock the black Key on the back of the Globe into the slot.
  6. Ensure no part of the unit is pushed against a wall, or has anything resting against it.
  7. Plug the unit back in and Power the unit On.
  8. The unit should start to cycle, upon return, the unit will perform a “reset” and use that weight as its baseline moving forward.
  9. Press the ‘Cycle’ button again to test that it can complete a cycle and return to the home position with a Solid Blue LED. Once completed, move on to step 10.
  10. Press on the Globe just above the entrance in a forward and down motion to activate the Cat Sensor (Red LED On). Let the unit continue the 7 minute timer, cycle, and return Home to a Solid Blue LED.

If, in steps 9 or 10, the unit does not return Home, or it does not return Home with a Solid Blue LED, please note any light patterns at that time and advise us, so we can help troubleshoot further.

My litter box is “half” cycling and then stops. It then flashes all 3 lights one after the other. This has happened several times and it is new as of 3 days. Please help, can’t get it to finish cycle nor abort.

Hi,

If the Open Air unit cannot find Dump and/or Home position, the control panel will display 3 lights blinking. If you have recently disassembled your globe please advise.

Please remove the globe and check the black gear connected to the motor. When you press on the black gear with your finger, does it seem loose or free‐spinning? If so, please follow the instructions for tightening the set screw, here: http://litterrobot.kayako.com/Knowledgebase/Article/View/85/41/litter-robot--free-moving-gear-solution

When replacing the globe onto the base, make certain that the track around the outside of the globe is properly aligned into the groove on the base.

If the unit is plugged into a power strip, try plugging it directly into a wall. Sometimes the issue is caused by a fluctuating power supply, low voltage, or other power issues. If the globe is filled past the fill line remove litter so the fill line is exposed.

Can we ask the specifications on the adapter for the power supply you are using Correct Spec: 15VDC regulated adapter 400mA to 1,000mA.
[Note: If you are using a power supply with different specifications, the Litter‐Robot may appear to work properly; however, inadequate power can cause the unit to malfunction over time.]

  1. While powered on, unplug the unit from the back of the base.
  2. There is a pin in the jack where the small connector from the power supply is inserted. This pin should be split. Find something small and open it slightly if it is not. 3. Plug in the power supply and let your unit cycle. What happens? A blue solid light means the issue should be resolved.
If the unit does not return Home, or does not return Home with a solid blue light, please provide details of any lights on or blinking on the control panel.
*Are the lights blinking all at once or sequentially?
**If sequentially, please provide the colors in sequence.

If the Litter‐Robot does return Home with a solid blue light, there are no issues with the functionality of the unit at this time.

The blue and orange lights are staying on constantly. I have tried resetting and turning off and on. Can you please help? Thanks

@James Smith, This issue is often cause by a failed circuit board. Did you buy the Litter Robot with us?
If yes, please contact us trough our domestic robots support center and one of our technician will get in touch with you.

The sensor is not working well in our Litter Robot 3. We’ve bought the unit about 3 month ago and used to manually cicle sinse our cat was under 5 lb.
Now our cat is 6.5 lb. When we clean and reset the unit the sensor works for just first 1-2 times and then stops detecting the cat.

Hi,

The unit is pretty sensitive and can pick-up weight from hands, arms, or other objects resting on the unit when “reset” is pressed. The unit should also be pulled away from a wall. Make sure you do not press on the Litter-Robot when you press the reset button.

We need to troubleshoot your cat sensor system (CATS). This is based on your description of a solid blue light after the cat has left the unit. Please try the following:

[NOTE: When attempting to activate CATS, troubleshoot with the following technique. We recommend applying pressure from the top of the globe entrance (not on the bonnet). Use a downward motion that pushes away from your body]

  1. Attempt to manually cycle the unit by pressing the “cycle” button. If the unit cycles properly, move to the next step.
  2. Reset the CATS by turning the unit off then on using the power button.
  3. During the start-up cycle, push on the unit to see if the CATS activates. If it does, press “reset” to pause the cycle, then press “reset” again to return the unit to home position.
  4. After the unit is on and in the home position, apply pressure to the unit. Does CATS activate (red light indicator)? If you apply more pressure, how much does it take to activate?
  5. If your unit switches to a red light after applying excessive pressure, consider the surface area that your unit is on (see below). If the CATS does not engage, refer to step 5.
  6. If your CATS does not engage, leave the unit off & unplugged. Notify us so we can make the necessary arrangements based on warranty.

The surface for your Litter-Robot should be hard to avoid the unit taking on extra absorption of weight. If the unit is sitting steady on the ground, but has a dip in the middle, the sensor may require much more weight to trigger. Instead, try putting the unit on a surface that is flat, such as a board. If your unit is on tile, we recommend that the back, center, of the unit is resting on the flat part of the tile and not on a grout line. Do not allow the unit to have items rest on it or be pushed up against the wall. Avoid resting on the unit when pressing the “reset” button.

I have the open air litter robot. When it does ithe cycle to clean it does not reverse. It keeps going in the same direction popping the key. How do I fix this.

Hi, The litter-robot III is turning the opposite direction of the cleaning way, then it will stop after dropping the litter in the bag with all three lights lighting up from red, to yellow, then blue again. Can you please trouble shoot? Thank you

Hi Liam, It looks like the globe position sensors has failed. Did you buy the robot with RobotShop? If yes, contact us trough our domestic robots support center

Hi, It seems that the globe position sensors has failed. The harness will need to be replaced. Did you buy the robot with RobotShop?

Blue light blinking constantly. Took everything apart, cleaned waste tray sensors, put it back together, blue light still blinking. Pulled waste tray out, pressed cycle to begin cycle, but it will not cycle or empty ot reset. Any further suggestions?

Hi,
Please contact us trough our domestic robots support center.

Hello,
We have an issue with the cycling of litter robot. Ing he process of cycling it just stops/jams. We have to turn it off and on again for it to continue the cycle. No lights are flashing. We are using same litter, nothing changed.

Hi, Please watch this YouTube Video about this issue

Hi, the set screw on my LR3 will not stay tightened. I followed the directions here:
http://litterrobot.kayako.com/Knowledgebase/Article/View/85/41/litter-robot–free-moving-gear-solution
After I tighten the set screw it works for 1/2 of a cycle, and becomes loose again. I re-tighten and it still loosens every time.

Hi Tam,

Litter Robot Open Air - Its about 2 weeks old and we’ve noticed that there was a lot of waste in the littler but it wasn’t waiting to do a cycle. I manually performed a cycle. Now today, I have a solid blue light and a solid yellow light that won’t turn off. Even after a cycle, it goes back to blue and yellow solid lights but doesn’t cycle after the set 7 minutes
