I have a litter Robot II. It has worked perfectly until a recent cleaning. Now, when activated, it rotates the drum to a specific point then the black sprocket begins to “skip” the track and make a thumping noise. I have to assist it past this point to complete the filter cycle. After the dump it rotates back to its normal position with no problems. Any ideas for a fix?
@L Hussey,
If we understand correctly, the globe rotates further then usual?
If that’s the issue, you will need to replace the hall effect sensor or/and the circuit board.
Hi, The issue may be with the Anti-Pinch feature. If you have an ON/OFF switch as an Anti-Pinch feature, you may want to replace that switch.
I cannot get the robot to stop the flashing red light from coming on. I have tried everything sugested to no avail. When take the globe off the motor runs fine. When I put it back and start it, it goes to yellow then eventually back to the flashing red light.
@Lester Morrow Verify the cat sensor, it seems like you have too much weight on the Litter-Robot, pressing down and activating the cat sensor. Make sure the sensibility is properly configured on the cat sensor assembly.
I have the same problem with my Litter Robot II as L Hussey (3 posts above). The unit rotates fine during the first cycle, but a few seconds after starting the return cycle, the globe stops and it makes a sound like the gear sprockets are skipping over the holes on the globe. I don’t think this is an electrical issue, but rather a mechanical one…I took apart the base to find that one of the plastic screw slots on the motor mount is starting to split (presumably from repeatedly lightly dropping the globe onto the sprocket). So I’m wondering if this is causing the motor to “sag” and the sprocket doesn’t engage with the globe holes. I cannot explain however, why this only happens on the second cycle, because the globe holes and the gear sprocket teeth appear to be symmetrical, and not worn in either direction. Has this issue been addressed before? Thank you!
@Sean It is possible the gear was offset and overtime, the globe damaged the gear. In this case, you would need a new cog or a new motor.
Mathieu, following up on yesterdays post… I discovered that the problem was coming from within the gearbox itself. After taking it apart, I found that the second gear from the axle was skipping along the adjacent gears while rotating counterclockwise (the globe reverse cycle). The reason it was skipping is that the holes in the front plate and back plate of the gearbox housing where the faulty gear axle is seated have become bored out by the sprocket… essentially so they are now elliptical. So that little gear axle is loosey goosey. I don’t know why it only skips in one direction and not the other, but nevertheless it’s not fixable, at least for me. I figured I probably cannot purchase just the gearbox housing plates, so I placed my order with you for a new motor last night. I wanted to post this as it may be helpful to you or someone else in the future. I hope the new motor comes soon- my cat has gotten spoiled and hates his temporary box… doesn’t like to use it and has to be supervised or he will opt for a closet somewhere. it must be like switching from the Ritz Carlton to the youth hostel. Thanks for your quick response.
Litter drawer fills with litter each cycle along with the clumps of stuff. Whats the issue? Its about a fourth of the litter in the dome.
@Melinda Make sure the globe is not overfilled, it should be under the fill line in the globe.
My litter box is cycling to empty like it normally does then it turns back for about 5 seconds then stops and turns back again to the emptying position. Can you tell me why it’s doing this.
Hi Helen,
In order to better serve you, we recommend that you contact us via our support center with a video of the unit so we can determine the source of the issue.
My litter robot 2 has all 3 lights flashing . Motor seems to be rotating very slow . Tested motor and it is still working fine . Replaced sensor harness and checked power cord . Could it be the circuit board that is dead ? None of the buttons do anything and the unit only turns slow with all lights flashing .
Hi,
If you have replaced the sensor harness, this issue is most likely due to the motor itself.
It may be running slower than usual or could have broken teeth on the gear.
We suggest that you replace the motor before proceeding with the replacement of the circuit board.
Also, you may power up the unit without the globe and note if the motor seems to runs slowly.
Verify if the black gear on the motor is loose or free moving, you may tighten the set screw with a 3mm Hex wrench.

Our Litter Robot II is approximately 5 years old and we haven’t had any problems until lately. It will rotate approximately 180 degrees to almost where it should stop. Then the globe starts lifting off the sensors - what I call “jumping off its track” - and won’t do anything but keep going up and down until I lift it up and get it back on track again. Any suggestions?
It seems that the robot is unable to track the globe’s position.
We suggest you replace the harness sensor.
Have LR2 from 2014, motor was replaced under warranty already.
Current behavioral abnormality is that it over-rotates when doing a cycle, then backtracks to stop at about 45’ clock from home.
After reading about the design, I’m pretty sure it’s the hall sensor missing steps.
Just curious, is there a way to fix a hall sensor? Would it miss if it’s just positioned a little improperly?
Also noted is that the rubber liner detaches from one side while it’s emptying and can sometimes obstruct the trap.
Curious if there’s a good way known to keep the liner attached properly to the sides of the drum?
Hello @b4n4n4p4nd4,
Welcome to RobotShop community.
Unfortunately, we don’t have enough information about the sensor itself so the best way to fix this is by replacing it with a new one.
About the PVC liner, it has a grove around the globe to stay in place as well, if the edges of the liner is worn out, maybe it needs to be replaced as well.
Sincerely,
My 7-yr old Litter Robot II just developed the exact same symptom. Upon opening up the base of the robot and verifying all wire connections are in place, I noticed one thing – the safety line switch metal plate was rusty at where it was making contact with a wired sensor metal piece. When a cat is in the litter box, the safety line will get pushed down and pull the sensor away from the safety line switch. When the cat leaves, the sensor will re-connect with the safety line switch. The rust must be preventing a good contact at the safety line switch. I took a piece of sand paper and sanded away the rust. The robot is working again! Thank you so much for the discussion board.
