Litter robot 3 not sensing cats

Hi!

I require your help regarding a problem I’m encountering.

Description:
I have a litte robot 3 which is 1,5 years old. Sometime when the cat enters the robot, it does not sense it.
After the cat leaves, the robot will not spin. The LED does not go to red like it used to do.
Then I have to make it spin manually.

Another problem is found with the yellow light that is flashing. For some reason the yellow LED flashes that there is something wrong.
After a reset, nothing is wrong.
In the past I have also had this problem and I got help by cleaning the sensor: Yellow light flashing, cleaned pins, resetted. Nothing works - #2 by Ebram
I have cleaned it AGAIN and problem still occurs.
The pins are NOT filthy or whatever. Also the sensor is clean and motherboard aswell.

Hardware concerned:
Litter robot 3 sensor

Hello @Deathonator,

Welcome back to RobotShop community.

We are sorry to hear that you are having new issues with the Litter-Robot.

You have mentioned two issues:

1- Cat not being detected:

Please make sure that the robot is placed on a firm and flat surface with nothing touching it from any side then press the “Reset” button and test if the issue is resolved or not yet.

2- Yellow light flashing:

According to last time you have mentioned this error, it was this behavior:

Slowly blinking blue light > Pressing the “Reset” button > Fast blinking yellow light.

Is this the case now as well or something different?

Awaiting your reply.

Sincerely,

Hi Ebram!

1 - cat not being detected.
The LR3 is on flat surface with nothing touching it.

2 - Yellow light flashing
Actually it is the blue light flashing. Indicating the drawer is full. But it is not.

Hello @Deathonator,

Thank you for your reply.

In this case, the CAT sensor will need to be replaced.

As for the blue blinking light:

Have you cleaned the 2 green circuit boards with isopropyl alcohol as we mentioned before?

We will also need to see the 2 pairs of contact pins shown in the following videos:

Bonnet’s Pin:

Base’s Pin:

No need to take them out of the robot, we only need to see them from the outside.

We will need the following:

  • Shipping address.
  • Phone number.
  • Serial number located on the back of the robot.

Awaiting your reply.

Sincerely,

Hello @Deathonator,

Thank you for your reply.

The pins seem okay so they won’t need to be replaced.

Was the blue blinking light issue resolved after cleaning the DFI sensor?

We still need your phone number and the serial number to proceed with the replacement.

Awaiting your reply.

Sincerely,

I am gonna let the robot spin for couple of day of uses.
And check if it gives problems or not.
After few days of trying, I will let you know.
It does still not sense the cats sometimes.

Hello @Deathonator,

Thank you for your reply.

It’s possible that the robot has been moved or touching any objects around it causing the CAT detection sensor to malfunction.

Please make sure that the robot isn’t touching anything and the floor beneath it it flat and firm then press the “Reset” button and test if the issue reappears again or not.

Awaiting your feedback after a couple of days.

Sincerely,

Hello,

The suggested things worked for me.
After cleaning all the pins showed in video the issue is resolved.

Hello @Deathonator,

Thank you for your reply.

That’s great, glad we could help.

Please try to clean these pins and the DFI sensor from time to time to avoid any issues with them.

Feel free to contact us again if you need further assistance.

Sincerely,

@Ebram

I have the same problem again. I have cleaned the pins again but the issue still persists.
Also the rubber pad inside the robot is comming lose after 2 years of use. See the video.

The robot goes into yellow flashes and I need to reset it 100 times before it starts spinning again. When it is spinning, it will stop mid cycle and then I need to reset it like 100 times before it continues. I have tried cleaning the pins the same way as before but no work this time.

I need help please.
