*Chungas* Tracked Rover

Thanks Guys, lol, no, the motors shouldn’t make it wheelie, besides i am counter balancing it with the batteries for the purpose of preventing it from flipping when going up steep inclines

im not sure on the top, front and back, it will either be lexan or aluminum, no more steel, its too heavy :stuck_out_tongue:

and yes i am going to do that with the L channel, make little slots for the batteries

the top layers scratch fairly easily but the layers beneath are able to stand up pretty well

Hey guys another little update

i was able to whip out some partially finished battery holders and get them bolted into the rover before my dad went back to work and took his drill with him T_T

here are some pictures, i plan on putting a back on them so they dont slide out, but like i said, my dad took the drill

Let me know wat you think

EDIT:

PS I dont mean to be pestering Jim and Beth, by were you able to get my order processed, i know i used a simon mall gift card, and i thought it would work, it did with my last order, but it still says “Pending” as it has all day, eould u like me to PM you, or vise versa? im just a wee bit impatient , in that order are the things i need to complete the rover

Very nice job with those holders! I love the idea of putting full slots into the L brackets so they can be adjusted.

Aren’t you a little scared that the batteries might come lose from vibrations? I think it might be a good idea to get long threads and sort of squash the batteries down with a small plate.

I always use sticky back velcro to hold my batteries in place, and I’ve never had a problem. All that hardware is taking up extra space and adding weight…

Robodude, loctice is a wonderful thing

A bot, as the the space, i have more than enough space, especially considering the fact that i am only adding a few mor boards, i under stand the weight though, i am really starting to fear for the power and capacity of the motors, the rover currently, with all the batteries and electronics it is pushing 13 lbs

Very nice job!

Very nice quality! :open_mouth:

Ty guys, big day today, tracks and stuff are coming today , too bad right after it comes im going to have to head off to work , oh well, im happy anyway, ill give u pictures

Well, do you really want to keep your job…

Personally, i dont think i need any words

Check it out, let me know wat u think

Click here to watch Bad-Ass Rover

EDIT: ok, maybe i do need some words, one of the tracks it loose because one side fits perfect and i thought it would fit perfect on the loose side so i added another loop and its super loose so i had to add a temperary idlers, dont mind it :stuck_out_tongue:

VROOM VROOM VROOOOOM!!!

Sexy rover man  It goes fairly fast for a 15lb beast being pushed by just two lil motors. Psst, your track is lose on the right side. Oh, and don’t bump into trees :frowning: Trees are good! Hug them

EDIT: Ignore lose part. You explained it :slight_smile: I didn’t notice the edit >_<;;

Wow nice job
But,i think you need to make the tracks a little bit smaller if there loose
BTW,is that a Vex remote that your using?

lol, ty robodude and wowy, yes i know the trakcs are loose, and wowy prolly didn’t understannd my explanation under the video, itf i take 1 more link out, it is to small to fit, so i have the little round thing in there tempoerary as a ensioner, i will make a finalized one later

and yes, it is a VEX transmitter

Yes i did notice the explanation under the video.

Click here to watch Weight Pull

This is a Vid of the rover under load, that large black metal thing is 20+ lbs , these motors are really strong beasts :open_mouth:

i will take some off road vids for you guys it u want, better ones that before

well, i will have more vids, tomorrow i plan on making the track tensioners, purchasing a new charger (someone came into my room and happily destroyed it by putting postive alligator clip to ground alligator clip  :imp:)

watcha think?

EDIT: in the video its not that the rover cant go full speed, its the fact that i cant because my room is small and i dont wanna beak the rover/my wall xD, i took it out to the hall and it happily does the same speed as unloaded :open_mouth:

Lookin pretty cool bud. I really like it. Nice design.

Very cool! I would have loved to hear the sound of that 20lb weight fall off at the end.

Thats a strong rover, now where to get more of those motors…

ty guys , tomorrow i am going to the store and buying proper standoffs, as nice as it is claiming that i made everything on there, i would much prefer to get some nice tight fitting ones with machine screws

also im going out today and getttnig lock washers for every screw on the robot and putting in the final 2 screws to mount the motors (used 2 until i knew it would work)

Mike, it wasn’t that loud…

ty for comments

-Jared

EDIT:

I did some tests of the angle it could climb and its at about 40-45 degrees that it can climb up :open_mouth:, this will improve though because i have thought of something else and i want to add a wheelie bar , probably front and back for going up and down those steep inclines

also, i have been running the rover for a while now, and the batteries just ran out, 30-40 minutes runtime, which is a huge jump from what i originally thought it would be able to do at 10-20 minutes

this will go up even more as i am talking to evo about some li-pos with some very high mAh :smiling_imp: hopefully 6000+

as of right now i am also drawing up some designs for the track tensinors as they are very much needed (my loose track falls off every 10 minutes or so)

last thing, i am having trouble with lost reception and the robot goes under its own mind for a while, and im not sure wat could be causeing this, e;ectrical noise? some random radio signals i picked up? im not sure if anyone could thin of anything, please let me know

Well today i went out and got lock washers and the stuff needed to make the tensioners  i had drop $23 from my pocket though , i think its worth it though

i have decided to use springs, evo suggested them and i came up with a design, its uses a compination of compression srpings and extension springs, heres a quick little drawing i did in paint

img2.putfile.com/thumb/7/21014422986.jpg

the top of the triangle is a pivot pont and the bottom of those are in slots so they can slide, the squigglies represent springs, the yellow being the compression and red the extension springs

the base of the triangle is push/pulled inward and the pivot point at the top is raised up, tightening the track, and once the spring encounter enough force coming against them the base will stop shrinking and it will stay

wat do you guys think?
