Yellow light flashing - Cannot resolve

Hi!

I require your help regarding a problem I’m encountering.

Description: Litter Robot 3 won’t cycle. Getting a flashing yellow light (Once per second). When powering off and doing a full power cycle, turns on, does a minuscule movement, stops and gives the flashing yellow light.

Hardware concerned: Litter Robot 3 - Open Air

Software concerned: N/A

Troubleshooting steps already taken: Wiped down all contacts on the bonnet and the base. Wiped down and cleared any litter debris in the globe track. Full Power Cycle. Ensured it is on a flat surface. Ensured that the main gear is not loose.

Additional information: Shield is removed from the unit.
Cleaning the contacts was the usual way of resolving this problem for me in the past, but it now seems to be ineffective.

Thank you so much in advance for your help!

Hello @myxlstyx,

Welcome back to RobotShop community.

We are sorry to hear that you are having trouble with your Litter-Robot.

Please provide us with your order number or a copy of the invoice.

Did you check the nightlight’s circuit board in case there was any loose or disconnected wire?

Awaiting your reply.

Sincerely,

I did my order through Costco. Do you have a video for checking the nightlight circuit board?

Please provide us with the Costco. invoice.

We don’t have a video for that, you can send us a picture of the circuit board and we will check it for you.

To locate the circuit board, turn the robot off, remove the bonnet.

Flip the bonnet and you will find the nightlight in the center of the bonnet from the inside.

Awaiting your reply.

Hi there, my costco order number was 668968029 - from Oct 2017.

I did some additional troubleshooting today and the issue is definitely with the night light. My litter robot is in a location that doesn’t get much light at the best of times. I did a test where I used my phone to shine a light at the sensor. While shining the light it ran smoothly. When I turned the light off during the cycle it stopped, and started running again when I turned the light back on.
Here is the image of the night light on the bonnet. All the connections seemed pretty tight to me.

Hello @myxlstyx,

Thank you for your reply.

Did you order an extended warranty with the robot or not?

If yes, we will need a copy of the invoice.

As for the nightlight issue, you will need a new bonnet since the nightlight’s circuit is damaged.

Awaiting your reply regarding the warranty.

Sincerely,

Did I now understand correctly that the function of the nightlight is also linked to the functions of the other parts on LR3?

Yes, if the nightlight isn’t working, the robot will stop at whatever position it was at and the yellow light will keep blinking slowly (once per second)

Why is this nightlight connected to function of the LR3? I supposed the nightlight to be more for convenience than for function of the LR3.

We are not the manufacturer of the Litter-Robot so we don’t really know the main reason behind this but it’s probably connected to the circuit board to give an error whenever there’s an issue with the nightlight.

It sounds pretty stupid solution if the main reason for nightlight is convenience, but at the same time dysfunction of the light affects the function of the entire system.
:no_mouth:

There might be a good reason for that design.

You can contact the manufacturer and ask them about that.

Here’s the link:

No I did not order an extended warranty. Though I did use the internet to see if I could just turn off the night light and see if that fixes the issue. A quick google search told me that by holding the power button for 5 seconds will turn the nightlight function on/off. So I just powered up my robot and held the button. The light went out. I let go of it, and it’s running smoothly.

This seems to have resolved my issue. How much is a replacement bonnet anyways? in case it ever gets to that.

Hello @myxlstyx,

Thank you for your reply.

Yes, deactivating the nightlight should be able to stop the error sometimes so it’s great that it has worked with you.

In case you had the issue again or wanted the nightlight back, you can order the new bonnet from this link:

Let us know if you have any further questions.

Sincerely,

Is it not possible just replace the nightlight circuit board and wires without needing to replace entire bonnet?

Hello @Leif,

It’s possible if the manufacturer was providing spare circuit boards for the nightlight.

You can try to deactivate the nightlight, this might stop the error, here’s the link:

You are probably not going to like this post… I have purchased 5 Open Airs in the past few years and my experience is that some of them will work brilliantly for about 6 months and then give trouble like the posts I’ve read here. Litter Robot had me replace numerous components, all of which didn’t help… or at least not for long. Some didn’t even work for 6 months, alas… I have one remaining that works sometimes… sigh… truthfully, I’ve given up and I manually scoop into the drawer. I did not give up for more than 2 years… but there’s a limit… sigh… :frowning: Sorry I couldn’t provide more optimism.

Hello @klister33433,

Thank you for your input.

We are sorry to hear that you have been having issues with your Litter-Robots all that time.

We can gladly help you fix them if you wish so.

Awaiting your reply.

Sincerely,

flex the two front bonnet tabs outward at as close to a 90-degree angle as you can. Hold in position for 20-30 seconds and put it back in. Make sure it properly snap with "click"sound. —> this solve my problem once and for all.

Hi Ebram,
I didn’t buy them from RobotShop, I bought directly from Litter Robot. Curious… how would you fix them? On some I’ve replace numerous components based on Litter Robot advice.
If there really is something I can do to get these functioning again, that would be fantastic.
Cheers,
Karen
