I have now finished my wiimote project. This remote is now a USB-ready remote to be plugged into and talk to Processing or any other software running on my lappy. In addition, the remote can be unplugged from the computer, powered externally and used as a stand-alone RF remote and a TV remote!
Here are the construction photos:
The basic Wii NunChuck
After making a template of the "grippie area" on the side of the remote, I made this "mold"
BONDO!!! And a AA battery wrapped in plastic so it wouldn't stick to the bondo
Removed from mold and AA battery "placekeeper" removed
A little shaping and sanding then a test fit of the antenna
Now a test fit of the "antenna pocket" on to the remote itself
A little putty, a little paint and make it what it ain't
After final sanding and primer
Prepping the Arduino Mini and the FTDI board
Prepping the 08m and TX unit for install --the arduino and ftdi go in next --Lot of "stuffing" here
And DONE! All parts fit inside. Note the IR led on the side --I see no reason not to have an extra TV remote on hand
Booyakasha.
Universal remote to talk to Processing
Actuators / output devices: FTDI sending serial data to computer / RF TX unit
There really is no circuit. The IR led is hooked up to the microcontroller just as any LED would be.
Lets go through the list:
What controller are you using?
What LED are you using? 850nm or 960nm?
Is the LED in backward?
Have you checked the light with a digital camera?
Are you using commands that relate to your TV or device?
Have you tried to build a IR receiver and tested the IR led that way?
Have you substituted a regular LED so you can see the “blink” and test that way?
Etc. etc. etc.
I need a bit more info (or a picture) to help you any further
Also: If you are using a picaxe chip, please tell me the page number of the manual where you are finding your IR commands so I can be sure you are looking at the right ones.
so i am using the picaxe 28x1 chip and yes the infrared led is working. i already checked it with a digital camera and I got this Led from a tv remote.
Building a little circuit with the infrared led and two 1,5 volt batteries and a button, I tried it out with a receiver and show the readings on the display of my pc. So the infrared led is not very useful. I mean that the readings are without the infrared led around 600 and when i activate the infrared sensor, the led, they are changing to 590. I dont understand this . WHich Infrared Led did you use and can you help me with this information.
I simpy do not understand what you are doing here and I don’t think you have read the manual on this one. There is no circuit in the manual that involves a 3v supply and a button. Nor would this work with the standard 3-pin reciever.
Before I can help you more, we need to get on the same page here… What page are you on in the manual? I mean, what page did you find the “IR Out” command you are using for your chip? What command are you using to receive the IR signal? Did you build the receiver circuit?
Please tell me a page number from the manual that deals with sending/ receiving IR commands and I will get this running for you.
Page number = your stuff works. No page number and I will not help.
The Manual, the manual, the manual. The Picaxe Manual. I mean the picaxe manual.
In this case, I am talking about the second one with the commands in it. I am sure you read it. It would be silly to ask a question here if you didn’t first check the manual, so I am sure you read it. When you were looking for the commands dealing with IR, what page were you on?
So, again, when you checked the PICAXE MANUAL, which page did you find the IR commands?
CtC: Awesome work dude, I hearby name this the Chrischuck.
Mjcross: just powering an IR LED doesn`t send any information to the receiver. It needs to be modulated to a frequency and then pulsed with a code. The picaxe has commands and probably schematics in the manuals.
okay thanks,so now it becomes clearly and sorry for the missunderstanding caused of my really bad english.
i am learning this not very long.
yeah i have the Led020 which is mentioned in the manual and the remote from sony or in other words the ir set for the picaxe.
my question is now on which pin i have to connect the output of the ir led.
should i have to connect the pin of the ir led only to an input of the chip , doesnt matter which one it is or only one input can receive an decode ir signals?
Chris: Yes, I read the manual thoroughly, but its in english and you know my english is not so good as it should be.
