Hey guys… I got all my parts and started rebuilding my CH3R. On of the main things I wanted to do was install 2 batteries. I have 2 turnigy UBECs, when I connect the batteries and power them up, both power leds on the output side of the upecs light up. One of them lights up then turns off really fast, the other one very slowy turns off. No I have them both turned off on their switch, I also have a main power switch that cuts power from both batteries completly to the UBECs.
Here is the part that is baffling me… I had one of the turnigys plugged into VS1, i then inserted the ground for VS2 and there was a little spark and a little smoke right there from where the wire contacted. I did put it in the correct “-”, I am positive (hahaha). There is no other power going into the ssc32 or the botboard II.
I ran another test by only having the ground lead plugged into VS1 and then plugging the groung into VS2, same result!!
Only thing I can think of is that one of the UBECs is bad? I dont understand how plugging in the ground from each on which arnt connected anywhere else would produce a spark.
Ok, here you go… I didnt have time to do any more testing last night… but the only part where things could get crossed up is the main power switch… before I connected the wires to it tho, I tested it to make sure there was now crossover.
I can draw up a schematic of how its all wired too if needed
The donut-things (drossel in swedish) isnt really needed, theese UBECs dont have that much ripple, but if you dont have them and have an inconsistent error, you allwayes risk it is noice … Ive keept mine on
I confess, when I first plugged the Turnigys into the SSC32, I did have the jumpers on for VS1 and VS2… BUT I did have the main power switch set to off, there was no lights at all on either turnigy so I figured it was fine to plug it in… I saw a little spark and thought “WHAT THE HELL” I then remembered about the VS1 and VS2 jumpers. I removed them and tried again with the same result. Again I say tho… the switch was off and there was ZERO lights on either turnigy.
Hard to say. Have you checked that the main switch isn’t faulty and that the two “+” from each batteries are isolated from eachother? You would defiantly get a spark if they where connected in your case.
BTW if the output voltage is proper on both of them I would just give it another try. Take extra care to make sure the wires go into the terminals, without any getting wadded up and sticking out of the housing. Just need to make sure they don’t short out.
Also the BEC’s appear to be rated for 15 amps. If you’re using 645’s one of them should be able to handle all the power needed by the hexapod.
Yeah I figured one would be able to do it… I am adding more servos and more gadgets on it… with two batteries and two BECs I figure he can run strong for longer… just the way I typically over engineer everything lol
Hi there…
One thing you can try is put a Voltmeter between the two (-) wire out of the ubec.
If you have a voltage difference between the two, it’s normal that they want to go to the same “0” when you connect the two (-).
BTW: My lipo on RC Helicopter do a big Spark when i plug the battery to the ESC and it’s normal.
ok guys, I got it figured out… I am using an adapter to hook up the voltage meter… it is connecting the positive of one of the batteries to the negative of another… damnit I wanted to have that cool little battery monitor display on the back of the bot
gonna have to look up those charging/balancing connectors and try to figure something out
