Hello,
I have a strange request, not sure you can help.
I have made a time machine costume to look like the time machine from the 1960’s George Pal movie, “The Time Machine”
I need to find a way to make the dish in the back spin and controlled from the crystal lever on the front panel. We tried using a drill as motor to make the dish spin, but now it’s not working. The drill is secured inside the green box and cannot be taken out without taking a part the whole machine.
I was looking at some of the motors here on robotshop.com that I could rig onto the machine. It doesn’t need to move fast. I’m not sure what motor would work best, how to power it or how to rig it. Any suggestions helpful.
Thank you!

Hello @TimeTraveller and welcome to the RobotShop forum!
What a fun project!

You can check this guide to have an idea of which motor would be best for your application as well as some tools like the torque calculator in case the dish that needs to spin is heavy.
It looks like a DC motor would be perfect for your project, maybe a geared motor if the dish is heavy, here’s a comparison list of the options available on the site:
If you need to control the speed of the motor you will need a motor controller, a good option would be one that has analog input so you can use a potentiometer and place it on the lever to control the speed manually. If you need help selecting one here’s a great guide:
If you don’t need to control the speed but simply turn it on and off (maybe change the direction) you can use a switch and place it on the lever.
To power it, you could use a battery. Here’s a tutorial on how to choose one:
