TI LaunchPad

from where did you buy it ?..

from where did you buy it ?..

Can you give me the mail

Can you give me the mail that you send the complaint?

I cant get the ti support mail and I order 2 before I did the account but its almost 2 months and it didn’t came yet.

I got mine today, Sept.

I got mine today, Sept. 21st. The invoice date was Sept 14th and the order date was June 26th and I payed $2.15. I don’t have time to experiment with it at the moment, as I have lots of stuff to do. I will probably get to it by Christmas. Oh well…

Lucky you, I got an email

Lucky you,  I got an email back saying I need to fill out a contact infromation and thats all.

Just open up my door and

Just open up my door and seen a packet laying at my foot.  I opened it and sure enough my two lauchpad :D.  I just e-mail them last week and got it now lol.  I must say the box it comes in is very well pack and looks really nice.  Can’t wait to start testing it out now.  Good luck to everyone else. Remember just e-mail them and you will get your soon also :stuck_out_tongue:

Got mine!

Just got two in the mail yesterday! Got them from Digi-key since they were the only ones with stock!

Got mine!

Ordered 27 June, Shipped 15 September, Delivered today 24 September to the UK.

I got 2 of them with the discount code (Thanks patrickmccabe!), came to $4.30 / £4.03

Now… how to use them…?

Looks like TI is also very

Looks like TI is also very good at giving samples, you can get more ICs if needed for free, i have some on the way so i can start making and putting them in projects.

Well - this is

Well - this is interesting,

After being told on the 9th Sept that my Launchpad was two months away - I go it today (on the 28th), including free postage to Australia

Maybe someone from TI is actually checking out this thread or it takes a push (such as checking on delivery) to get the system to work.  I have gueasts over for a week so won’t be able to play until next week :frowning:

IDE = EVIL

The IDE is clumsy to use. I think this is the first time I have ever used the word ‘bureaucratic’ to describe a development environment. Just setting up a session, I forgot where I was going part way through the steps. I think it was designed by Vogons.

It’s not a bad controller for the price, but it does require more support circuitry than usual for robotics.

Verdict: I’d rather see a beefier PICAXE.

being shipped

I just received an e-mail that says that my order is being shipped.

Ordered and shipped in < 24 hours

Ordered my LaunchPad yesterday and just got the shipped notification - less than 24 hours!

As to the device itself, looks interesting. Less so the development environment. As a Mac user it looks like it’s command line or boot into Windows 7 for and IDE. Can’t argue with the price though!

If I’m reading this well,

If I’m reading this well, these motors are even capable of controlling DC motors! That would be great for robotics!

If you think of driving a

If you think of driving a motor directly from the LaunchPad then I think you are wrong. The microcontroller can’t handle more than about 4mA on any given IO pin so no motor can run on that. You will need a motorcontroller or at least some MOSFET’s or a H-brige.
I got my LaunchPad several months ago but after downloading the huge IDE and gave up the whole processor. I’ll stick with my PICAXE, Arduino or NETMF

Is there any way to get at least 16kB of code

Hey guys! It would be a nice little development platform for hobbyists. The only problem is the code restriction. The biggest MSP430 Value Line device has got 16kB of flash and that device would fit the LaunchPad footprint as far as what I have read in the datasheet.

So how can I get 16kB of flash out of the Code composer studio without creating a my.TI account? For the my.TI account I need to fill in a company name but I’m a hobbyist.

I have looked arround there is a gcc compiler thats probably the one I’m going to stick with. Linux^^

I think the only purpose TI released the LaunchPad is to get people new to µC’s hooked on the MSP430 devices by TI because at that low price TI won’t make a lot of profit (if any) of the LaunchPad.

I think you are right of

I think you are right of course about TI’s intentions.

I haven’t really done much with my LaunchPad, despite my good intentions. VoodooBot seems to be most active with that platform at the moment. Search for some of his posts on the subject or post your own forum question and maybe he will see it and answer.

I see all things MSP430

I see all things MSP430 related.  :)

Not quite clear on what you

Not quite clear on what you are asking…but here is some info.

CCS is limitied to 16k of uploadable(compiled code)but to my knowledge, MSPgcc is not. I haven’t used MSPgcc so I cannot say so definitively.  As far as a TI account, I don’t think the company name is going to be that big a deal. I’m a hobbyist as well but just I used my site name as my company name…

The LP isn’t going to give them high proffits, but it will give them new customers and in the hobbyist world. The base chips that come with the LP won’t be a contender for the arduino, but I don’t think that is their intention. The news ones(G2553) are pretty nice and add quite a bit more features. If you want some great info on the LP and all things MSP430 related, check out www.43oh.com

Because of your posts I

Because of your posts I actually got interested in the LaunchPad.

Man, the form for a myTi account is almost as bad as getting a US-Visa. For example:

I am NOT located in Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan or Syria. I understand these are prohibited destination countries under the EAR or U.S. sanctions regulations.

Geez… paranoid

Can I actually type “N/A” for the company name?
