T-Hex prototype process

Fantastic…don’t forget to send some to ROBOTSHOP.CA …aye

I noticed the LynxMotion products page says that the THEX is out of stock…is this just the start of an unfinished ad or are you truly out of stock already???

We’re still packaging them. A lot more behind the scene work required than one might think.

Should have something today, or tomorrow.

Hey no worries, I can sleep next week…

I would just like to say the tutorials for T-Hex look like they are coming along great! Should be a lot of fun. I like how both of the boards look like they should be easy to manipulate all of the wires.

Again Great job!
Kurt

Hi,

The tutorials look great for the T-Hex! Fun to see it comming all together.

I do have a little Q for why the foot isn’t aligned centered with the coxa. Its best shown in this picture from the tutorial (added some red lines indicating where the center of coxa are aligned in relation to the leg):

Well, I guess you choosed this construction for avoiding conflict between the chassis and the front leg (and no need for the 1/4" spacer). I’m just a tiny worried that the kinematics won’t be 100% perfect when the foot isn’t centered to the horisontal coxa.

Btw, If I understand your tutorial right you are using 30 deg coxa offset on the rear and front legs? (Thats should be very fine too though. )

Hi Kåre,

This is only the mechanical set up. The calibration should take care of the exact alignment. I will review it to make sure it’s the right way to do this. I didn’t realize the spacers were required for proper operation. We will have to add them on and gaaa we need to retake some photos. :frowning:

Thanks for the feedback! I think moving the tutorials to the forum is a good idea. 8)

I’m aware of that the leg wasn’t calibrated. My point was that the coxa design you are using here doesn’t allow the tars to be centered and aligned with the center of the coxa (horisontal) servo. The kinematics doesn’t take care of this misalignment even after calibration. It will work though, but not perfect, especial when the leg/tars are far from the calibrated position.

EDIT:
Look at this picture. What I try to explain is that these two red lines are not parallell. They should be parallell or else the tars won’t follow the correct IK path.

Roger that. Fixing it now…

Redo… Redo… Redo…

Wow, that’s one major big time slow to sink in point you made there.

I thought I made them the same as you did! lol

Yes this is a bit of a set back. :stuck_out_tongue:

Well, its better late then never for doing changes. Good thing that you have James for doing the “dirty” job then… :smiling_imp:

Oh, wait there is more… I think i wait until the new tutorial are updated again… :stuck_out_tongue:

All this could be avoided if i worked in the same office of yours though! (just a little dream I have…)

Well he’s doing the 3DOF here at the office. I’m doing the 4DOF at home in my spare time.

Will you just get over here and start working already!.. We will work out the details later. lol

Then:

You: Make the chassis! Make the chassis! Please, make the chassis!
Us: Okay.

Now:

Us: Buy the chassis! Buy the chassis! Please, buy the chassis!
You: Okay.

Here is a video of the 3DOF T-Hex prototype. I like the way it looks. Feedback?

Very nice jim.
i think some of the variables may need correcting or something. “while expressing body moves the tars are sliding especially the left front”!

a simple correction will sort this.

would like to see some more gaits…

anyway great work, i like the look to. 8)

Awesome…

After a quick conversation with James… He used Zenta’s values for the body horizontal pivots. His are slightly different than ours. James will correct it. :stuck_out_tongue:

OK, I guess I’m warming up to it a little!

Nice moves.

Is this item going to be available in Canada at RobotShop.ca?

Yes, I’m sure they will be adding it.
