Here is an image of our upcoming track system. This prototype is what I’m using to define the track width, length and spacing.
We have the new injection molded sprockets. The tracks are on order. They will be available in different widths, probably 1.5", and 2.0" (shown). We may provide wider widths, but we’re not sure yet.
We will sell the sprockets and hubs individually as well as the tracks by the foot. The preliminary pricing for the tracks will be around $12.00 to $15.00 per foot. Then we will make an assortment of track system chassis with inline and triangular configurations.
These tracks are actually very smooth and quiet, for tracks… Scheduled release is this summer…
Ooooh!
VERY NICE, I can’t wait until these come out. 8)
The triangular design sounds VERY interesting. The “johnny 5” bot would look extremely cool with these.
Keep up the great work Jim.
that is WICKED SICK, will these b compatable with the rovers you have out now? because i’ve wanted to put track on my rover but dont have the money to (have more than enough time though)
Been trying to find a nice tank base for months now… At least now I found it… Just need to wait a bit! The good news is it will be lynxmotion! Some of the BEST chassis I have ever seen/owned come from you guys! You guys rock!
Howdy!
The motor, hub, and sprockets have a way different spacing requirement than the 4WD rovers. It may be possible to make work with some modifications. I hadn’t really thought about it…
It looks to be about 2.75". With what we have right now it’s possible to build a simple system as pictured using a motor on each sprocket, sort of like a 4 wheel (motor) drive. We still need to make an idler sprocket to allow other configurations. The sprocket is 2.1", we may make a larger diameter one if everything goes well.
Jim,
I anxiously await these. One question though - what is the working surface of the track made out of? Hard plastic? Rubber? I ask this because I am trying to get a gauge of the traction/friction on say - hardwood floors, tiles and rugs. I was hoping the ground contact was not some ultra hard and smooth plastic (i.e. delrin) Thanks in advance for your reply.
The rubber tracks have a shore A hardness of 45. 30 is like a rubber band, 40 is like a pencil eraser, and 60 is like a tire tread. Here is the link to them on the website. lynxmotion.com/Category.aspx?CategoryID=94 There is one last hurdle to overcome, but I think I have a solution. Realistically it is going to be another 3 to 4 weeks.
