Thanks for th URL!
Interesting little bug, I like the long antenna.

You’re welcome!
I’ve ordered the 645’s for the arms today and they should be dispatched tomorrow (and I think I’ll get them by Wednesday) so I can start getting it all started up - I’m also re-thinking the arm design and I’ve got some rough ideas at the moment so I’ll post some sketches tomorrow.
Sorry everyone for the late post - I ended up not having any time to do some decent sketches . However, I’ve got a rough drawing for the layout of the servos - I’m still thinking of how to make the “arm” piece look really cool so I’ll hopefully work on that tomorrow.
Woohoo! I just received my servos - I’m going to try to get the new arms ready by Friday so I can have some fun over the weekend!
I think I have a pretty good design for the arm but I’m still trying to make some changes (I’ve given myself until the end of the day to come up with designs). Any comments are welcome!
that works!

Thanks for the comments guys!
I know that we have something like that in our school’s tech. storage room which nobody uses but I’ve never actually taken a look so I’m not too sure what it looks like exactly - however, I do know that it’s green so that would fit in with the colour scheme I’m going for; thanks for the idea! ^___^
I’m planning on cutting out some parts tomorrow so hopefully the arms will be done (or at least the fluorescent parts of the arm) so I can upload some photos - I’m getting to the exciting bit when I can start getting it all to move, it’s going to be AWESOME!
Hi everyone! I managed to get some brackets cut out (but not as many as I had hoped ) and I have some disappointing news - I checked out what I thought to be the neon green plastic and it turned out that the edges were green but the actual sheet was a translucent lime colour which I personally thought looked disgusting - the photo below shows a plastic sheet with the same colour:
I’ve decided to cut the arms out of red and stay with the green, red and black style and I have about 4 hours free at school tomorrow so I’ll try my best to get the remaining parts cut out. ^____^
Phew, the weekend was long - out of 48 hours, I spent about 35 working (damn coursework ) - anyway, I managed to get about 99% of all the new brackets for the arms cut out (I’m missing the front “hand” parts but they can be cut out in a few minutes so they aren’t really a major concern at the moment) and I’ll hopefully start programming on the weekend - I’ve got to hand in my further maths coursework tomorrow and my Design & Technology coursework on Friday; then it’ll just be exams to revise for - yay lifelessly moving my arms in the air ! Here’s a photo of the new arm bracket - I changed it slightly from the original design to make it look thinner but still stylish  - ENJOY!
P.S. I’m afraid to say that the NEXUS video is also delayed until the weekend - sorry guys!
Nice arms! Do they need to be left and right? ;>)
Alan KM6VV
Thanks!
Not necessarily, it just depends on which way you want the arms to go on, I prefer to have the servo horns pointing outwards so it’s easier to remove (if required).
When laser cutting acrylic there is usually a good side and a bad side. The good side is facing up when cut. The underside can have imperfections where the beam crosses the honeycomb table. So I think prolly yes they are right and left.
Yeah I’ve experienced that a few times when using a laser cutter but I normally use a CNC milling machine (the one pictured below) - both sides seem to come out quite nice when I use this CNC machine :

P.S. It’s soo much slower than a laser cutter though.
Hi guys, I’ve given NEXUS enough attention recently - I think it’s about time to move back onto the main project in progress.
I’ve assembled the arms (pretty much) and I think they look way better than the previous ones (but then that’s just me ^___^) and I’ve also given the arms some “hands” as well; they look a lot better with them on and they’ll help when the walking motion when the Mantis goes into hexapod mode.
I’ve ordered a few samples of 5V, 5A regulators for the PCB since the one I’m currently using is 2A and the servos don’t have enough current going to them to work properly - so I’ll be redesigning the circuit board as well (and I’ve got an idea to make it look fancy but you’ll have to wait and see for that ).
Very colorful!

Thanks!
Once I’ve got the abdomen sorted, it should look pretty cool. ^____^
Hi everyone! It’s been quite a while! ^____^
Well I can happily say that my Physics exam is over and done with (YAAAAY! ) and I am officially free from school - however, I will still be popping in to make PCBs and brackets for the robots (until school is officially finished for summer holidays ).
I am going to try to make the abdomen and new PCB for the Mantis robot tomorrow so I’ll try to upload some photos when I’ve finished putting it all together.
Stay tuned until then.
