Oh sorry, forgot to reply to that question.
Just going to borrow a few Lynxmotion photos for this:
And that holds everything in place.
Hope this helped.

Just an updated photo of the top half of the robot. I’ve changed the arm layout and added the head servo - I’m still designing the “mask” to go over the head servo but I’ve finished the abdomen design so I’ll have that ready by the end of the week.
looks great. a very interesting project.
i think Alan is asking about the chassis standoffs… if any?
example…
Yeah, that it. I didn’t see any provisions for the spacers (standoffs), so I thought I’d ask.
I hate it when I forget to put in a hole for something or other; get all the way built, and then realize it!
Alan KM6VV
Oh sorry, I was being a total idiot.
No, I won’t be using any of those, it’ll just be the two plate separated by the servos and that’s it.
Hum, that’s interesting!
I’d have thought you’d use a bearing, screw, lock washer and nut as LM does. And they still use spacers.
Oh well, I guess you’ve got it all worked out! Can’t wait to see it!
Alan KM6VV
Very interesting project!;-)…
I’m curious to see how it’ll be
Hi everyone! Sorry for not updating for ages but revision has taken up a fair amount of time . However, I gave myself the day off today (YAY ) and managed to get some walking motion going but the robot doesn’t lift off the ground very much which is what I’m working on at the moment. Anyway, here’s a video of Walking Attempt #1 - Enjoy!
Hi everyone! I managed to get another walking motion sorted and I think it’s better than the other one but I’m still working on it to make it better. Enjoy!
Yeah, you’ve got a little “crawling” going on there!
Check out the Phoenix code. What processor did you say you were using? BB II?
Alan KM6VV
I had a look a the Phoenix code and to be perfectly honest, I had no idea what anything was (I really do suck big time at code ), but I’m planning on sitting myself down this weekend and ploughing my way through it because the code’s been written by pros so it must be awesome.
I attempted the walking again and I think this one is the best so far for sure:
You might even have the gait correct, it’s just a little fast to be able to analyze each move. You need more lift of each leg, and possibly longer strides.
But yes, do sit down and study “from the masters”. Ask questions!
You will learn Grasshopper, er, I mean Mantis!
Alan KM6VV
Hahaha! I’ll try my best!
The problem with the walking is that when I try to make it walk by lifting one leg at a time, it doesn’t keep it’s balance and topples forwards/backwards (depending on which leg is lifted) - that is why I try to make it complete the walking gait quite fast because it doesn’t have anytime to fall over.
Anyway, thanks to Innerbreed’s post earlier in the topic, I’ll just use the arms as the front two “legs” and then make it into a hexapod which should make the balancing/walking so much better.
At least the weekend’s not that far away so I can get to grips with the Phoenix code.
I made the face/mask today for the Mantis - let me know what you guys think!
Here are some photos! Enjoy!
Very Colorful!
You must have small furry animals around the house that you want to intimidate!

Thanks for the comment!
I really wish I had one of these to joke around with!

Yeah, that’s all you need!
Alan KM6VV
Very nice progress! I really love mantids, I find them fascinating that they sacrificed the two front legs to use them for grabbing and holding their prey and evolved to walk on four legs versus most insects that utilizes all six for stability… Would really make for an interesting bot, maybe program it to stay still until something come close to it and prance on it?
Tom’s back!
The Praying Mantis is the only insect that acts very much like a quadruped. Can you think of others?
Alan KM6VV
Thanks for the comment! I was thinking of extra features to add and the “Pouncing on Prey” one was something I had not thought of - Thanks for the idea!
I was bored in school today (only had 1 lesson) so I did a quick Google Image search and I only found 1 which looks really odd:
