Mini Sumo Robot

I am thinking of making a minisumo robot for the 500g class. (Ya, I know it’s a 3kg forum, but it’s getting so little use  ) I am planning a universal circuit board that I could use for any sumo robot. It will be based on the parallax SX chip. I will use surface mount chips. An SX-20 or -28 chip, an L293DD (or some other motor driver). I will use QRD 1114 edge sensors. I will use lithium poly batteries for power. I am planning on using sunstone circuits to get the boards made.

Any help, sugestions or criticism would be greatly appreciated.

OK, IDK it will work! JK

It sounds like a good idea, my advice will be cut back on wieght in the body so that more sensors ect could be added. Although what makes a sumo bot good is the programming

Hmm, I don’t think I have enough space for lots of sensors. I am trying to keep this under 5 cm tall.

5 cms?? that’s realy small no? for a sumo bot? even if it’s not in the 3kg

Ya, the size is 10 x 10 x 5cm.

wow, you have to use the space you got the best you can :astonished: it’s small, that’s when you like to have tiny sensors.

I will use solarbotics.com/ GM 19 Motors.

these babies would work nicely: solarbotics.com/products/ima … nter=scd:r[5/image_large1|id1055|jpg|600|428]

I suggest putting a lot of programming into this if you cant have too many peripherals onboard. Like I said, what makes a SUMO good is the programming.

Ya, that’s what i’ll use.

I am almost done the assembly. Hopefully I’ll be able to post some pics soon.

GOOD! because we’ve been waiting!

I’m building one of these too, and probably a 2nd one and a Ring if it works out well.

It’ll be at least a month until I have anything to show though since I’m still collecting parts…

Holy cow!!! I just finished getting the motors mounted and a simple program written. It crosses the ring in less than a second.

Pics? Video?

Ya, I’ll get around to that soon.

One quick question, how do you post pics and video? :stuck_out_tongue:

For images:

For videos and everything else:

These must be links to something on a website.

The pics are finished!

EXCELLENT!

Its good to know I can relate to other Ontario’ans

I like the wheels.

The wheels are from solarbotics. I think they are out of stock now but should have more soon. They fit the gear motors perfectly.
