Yes, that’s normal behavior on multiwii.
There is a way to have not spinning when arming but it can be dangerous since you can think it’s not armed.
ok. so they are spinning slow enough that it will not take off on arming?
They should spin at idle.
Post pictures of your prop and be sure that motor are spinning the right direction
and we are flying.
Sweet. only took me a week of messing with it.
Thanks for all the help. Now to get better at flying it and getting less windy weather.
Coooooolllllll…!
Messing with it is half the fun man! The reward when you finally get it in the air makes it worth it everytime! Have fun bro!
could you explain how to …
Of course i can…
In the “config.h” do a search and find that:
/**************************************************************************************/
/*********************** motor, servo and other presets ***********************/
/**************************************************************************************/
/* motors will not spin when the throttle command is in low position
this is an alternative method to stop immediately the motors */
//#define MOTOR_STOP
You just have to define the “MOTOR_STOP”
/**************************************************************************************/
/*********************** motor, servo and other presets ***********************/
/**************************************************************************************/
/* motors will not spin when the throttle command is in low position
this is an alternative method to stop immediately the motors */
#define MOTOR_STOP
Just be careful with that, you can be in “Armed” state and don’t know it.
Moving the throttle and get injured.
I don’t know if I would change that - It is really handy for letting you know you have to disarm. That almost got me on one of my quads with the KK2.0. I had the transmitter on a strap, didn’t set it down, bent down to unplug the battery. Well the transmitter slid around on me and bumped against my leg with the control sticks - I was lucky thottle up and aileron stick moved such that it flipped over away from me when the props took off spinning, I swear I had disarmed it. I have some steps I do very consistently nowdays. 1) I disarm, then move throttle halfway before I even approach the quad, 2) I take my transmitter off me and lay it down in front of me and over off the side next to the quad, making sure nothing is gonna hit the sticks, unplug the battery, then power off transmitter.
Now for the fun stuff - I so so so love this Vtail frame, my wife is going to smack me but I think I am going to get the 400 & the mini. We haven’t had a still day yet to fly in and fine tune, but yesterday was so nice, we left work (thanks to daylight savings, we still have sun) and took our quads to the park for some flying. I had my Hunter Vtail 500, Bob was roll’n with the good ole F450 and Francis was working out tweaks with his Deadcat conversion on HobbyKing’s 450 frame/arms. I was running the Quadrino from Flying Einstien, Bob on the KK2.0 board and Francis had the HK MultiWii Pro w/GPS. Bob was going crazy on his flips, which is what all three of us practiced doing flips with, we have a stockpile of arms and we went through many, I 3D printed a tall case which Bob uses on to protect the KK2.0 including the servo wires/header pins sticking up when he lands upside down - saved him and my KK2.0 boards many times. I was enjoying the sick speed and yawing you get from Vtail while Francis was getting his stable and ready for some FPV and taking videos.
A bit more tuning and I will be putting the FPV gear on the Vtail, not going to acro that, but I do want some good hi-speed zipping around FPV. Francis is focused on getting FPV setup to get awesome video shots and Bob just want’s to acro. I wanna do some flips with the Vtail, but that is why I may get the mini and/or 400 to do that kinda stuff with.
Here’s our vid of the day:

I got more video - still waiting for a non windy day to use the multiwii way of tuning the angle mode but having fun in the meantime, I just love how this thing flies. It’s back to freezing out so when it warms up and we get a nice low wind day I plan to try some flips using the horizon mode.
More fun with Hunter Vtail
Very nice video, as always…
I added it to the website.
Seems like you really like your new toys.
Is there any way to order new prop cones for the motors from the VTail 500 kits?
Do you mean the cone shaped “Nut” ?
We do not have these in stock at the moment, but it might be a good idea to get them just in case.
In the package you should have one “cone” and one “nut” for each motor, at least it will help you keep flying.
Yes the cone shaped nut. I lost it and the washer. Been running the regular nut with a different washer.
Let me know if you get any in stock soon.
Thanks
Steve
Ok, yes i understand that.
Added the spare parts to our next order from T-Motor.
They only sell the complete prop adapter with the regular nut, or the dome nut alone.
We will have both of them soon on our website.
Hunter Vtail ready for some FPV. Fatshark 420 pilot cam and I got a 5" LCD with built in 5.8Ghz receiver compatible with Fatshark, it also has built in DVR to microSD from foxtechfpv. Also my Fatshark Goggles ready to go and 5.8Ghz 600mW ImmersiveRC transmitter and cool ibcrazy cloverleaf from readymaderc. Tomorrow looks to be rainy hoping for a nice Sunday to do some runs. I also setup my Phantom FX-61 flying wing loaded up with APM:Plane using the APM2.5+ which I have another Fatshark 420 pilot cam mounted on. I have a mission plan laid out for a local municipal building with large fields around
Ohhh…
Can’t wait anymore… do it…
I picked up a VTail 500 a few months ago and finally got the chance to set it up. I’ve got it flying well on a KK2. The only issue I’m having is a slow oscillation when correcting itself in autolevel mode after letting off the sticks…mostly deep side to side swaying. I’m wanting to use autolevel as I’m doing a lot of FPV with it and it is an awesome platform for it. It’s been a blast so far. If anyone has any suggestions for KK2 adjustments to compensate for the autolevel wobble I would appreciate it. Line of sight without autolevel…this thing is too much fun and screams across the sky. My favorite is doing backward flips while flying fast forward. It blows people’s minds the first time they see that.
I also just picked up a GoPro so I plan on doing some recording this weekend. Thanks for an awesome platform.
Doing my homework before I pull the pin on a 500.
I notice the two motor options listed by Lynxmotion.
The T-motor (900Kv) option is more expensive and I notice it comes with 18 Amp ESCs, yet the other option comes with 930Kv motors and 30 Amp ESCs, which set up is going to be more powerful?
Looking for a FC board that supports GPS, auto hover, RTH and V-tail.
Does anyone have a setup like that they can recommend? (Don’t need waypoint or mission capability)
36 years experience in RC and almost two dozen CP Heli builds but new to building a quad and currently researching various FC boards.
Wanting to make the right choice in boards first time so any advice appreciated.
Does the flip multiwii board in the kit support GPS/ return to home function? Thinking about doing gps on it at some time. Just wanting to figure out what I need.
Thanks
