I have not done the landing yet.
Mostly want to be able to supply a “Add-On” part that will extend the landing so it don’t affect the whole kits.

It would be nice if that part fit both the 400 and 500 as well…

Just want to show you that we have put the VTail 400 Sticker Kit online.
We will add the 500 soon and i will advertise here once it’s done.

VTail 400 - Blue Sticker Kit
VTail 400 - White Sticker Kit
VTail 400 - Orange Sticker Kit
VTail 400 - Yellow Sticker Kit
VTail 400 - Red Sticker Kit

Note that on the picture, i peeled the material to show but the sheets will be plain, you have to remove what you want. You will receiver two sticker sheet, to cover both sides of a G10 plate.

So, if I’m going for the V-Tail 500, is the $495 T-Motor kit along with the recommended Lynxmotion battery the best bang for my buck I’m going to get with that platform? Particularly in the aim of maximum flight time?

Well, if you get the frame only and source all the parts yourself, you can get it for lower price.

I think more specifically my curiosity is if the parts selected in the kit are the most efficient choices you know of for maximizing flight time. My concern is less that I might accidentally pay a couple extra bucks on a part, and more that I’d like to avoid coming across the desire later to replace the motors or such.

The VTail design is not as efficient as a standard Quad setup; the rear propellers are at an angle and therefore part of the propulsion is at an angle rather than straight down.
What kind of flight you intend to do ?

Not really 100% sure. I intend to play around with what I can do with it. For the moment, I ordered the Eclipse 7 Pro RC controller, recommended earlier in this thread, since it’s $40 off right now. But at some point, I’d like to experiment with programming a flight route and such in one of the flight computer-like controllers.

The VTail is more like a sport platform. Having two motors at an angle on the back don’t give you 100% of the trust but still twice the weight.
Doesn’t mean it’s not possible, just that flight time will be less than a normal Quad setup.

The T-Motor and Base combo give good flight time. The T-Motors are a bit more efficient.
In order to get better flight time you need bigger motor that run on more voltage. But the frame is not really made for that.

Yes, TMotor is out of stock on the motor so we cannot make kits.
The “Base” combo is a very good choice too. Motors are well made not cheap.

My Tx/Rx finally arrived, so I’m starting to wire up my VTail 500.

Notes so far:

  1. The beep patterns in the electronics guide for the VTail do not seem to correspond with the T-Motors. The manual with the T-Motor ESCs has a completely different beep pattern, and it’s the one that seems to correspond with the actual behavior of the components.
  2. The cables for the T-Motors are REALLY REALLY long. I’m having a hard time figuring out where to shove all the excess slack cable.
  3. Non-equidistant screw holes on the bottoms of the T-Motors really baffled me until I noticed that was intentional.
  4. On the other end of things, if you put the ESCs under the propellers, there’s no way to get the power connectors from the rear rotors all the way up to the power harness thing. I’m guessing I’m going to have to mount them along the sides of the body of the thing.
  5. Power connectors for UAVs are incredibly hard to connect and disconnect. I’m worried about how easily I’ll be able to connect and disconnect the battery without getting hands or arms in the way of the propeller blades. Since I’m not done assembling it yet though, I don’t really know how easy that’ll be to work around.
  6. The HiTec Optima receiver is soooooo much tinier than the Futaba receiver I had for my R/C plane back in the day.

HI, Trying to decide between the both 400 & 500. My only Q: is, and sorry if it has already been mentioned.
What is the payload difference, and amount of the two models?
I realize that there are variable that will change this. I looking for the max.

I have an idea to build it into a paintball marker, with all the bells and whistles.
I used to be very into the sport long age, maybe this could be a new twist to the sport. Drone wars paintball…

This is all still a dream, but thats where great things begin…
