Looking for someone to build a 3D model of the CH3-R

I have been contacted by a very large movie production company. Sorry can’t say who yet… They want to have a couple CH3-R robots in the set of a scientist’s lab in a movie they are making, sorry I can’t say what movie yet… We are making the bots, but they also asked for any computer graphics stuff that is associated with the bot. So I’m looking for a volunteer who can build up a complete 3D model of the assembled robot. Your work could be in a major motion picture. I’m not kidding.

Ahhhh, if I had a CH3r, I would do this in a heartbeat.

If there is any way you could get me the measurements of all the parts involved, I will put together a compete assembly in SolidWorks 07.

Man.you are like… the luckest person on the face of the earth,
but how does it just happen that they ask you?

It probably helps that he owns the company that makes the kit that they want to use.

Please tell us what movie, no one will ever know!

hmm, if solidworks didn;t blow up and fly away from my computer, i wouldn’t mind doing it , i have made an SES arm in SW, so it cant be much harder, just take a LOT longer

I’m sure if you put the measurements for the legs up here, you would probably get a few people giving this a go.
Everything but the legs seem to be available in the 3b models list.

I’d probably give it a go…

If you’d provide dimensions for the parts that we don’t already have models for, such as the CH3-R leg parts and anything else that is unique to the CH3-R, it would not be difficult to create the 3D part models and then the model of the entire robot.

I am guessing the model would have to contain all the hardware to put the actual robot together, if it’s going to be in a movie. This also would not be difficult to do - just requires a bit extra work is all.

3D models can be created from 2D CAD drawings also.

When it comes out tell us! I want to see it   8) That’s realy cool, going in showbusiness :stuck_out_tongue:

I am a little curious what exactly they could do with a solidworks model. Perhaps a Studio Max model would prove better for rendering animations as I assume that is their goal.

I have no problem putting it together in either program but like Tim said we need some measurements for the newer components.

Ok I’m putting a DWG of the leg up so people can model it. Because of the irregular curvy shapes I never even tried to dimension it. The production company is interested in any computer graphics that look scientifically “cool”. The 3D model may just be a wireframe that is rotated around an axis or it may be modeled, I’m not sure.

Edit: The undimensioned part is 2.158" wide and 7.125" tall. The holes are spaced 0.391" by 1.916".

spacing at the top? (where the screws are)
width of material?

If you give me more detailed info or get me in touch with someone that can describe exactly what kind of graphic they want i would be happy to see what i can do.

Edit: it is still early, i meant thickness of the material

Thought I would ask your opinions on which would look the best…

I love the last one and the second and third i like too (but I dont see any difference between the two… )

Maybe to the last one add a like red or flashy color to make it cool 8) :stuck_out_tongue:

The last one looks great!

maybe the last one could be a little crouched maybe, it would be cool too no?

I did read the thread but I did not see something that cool comming. Nice work dude.

Congrats Jim

Hell, if I were making a movie I would want the CH3-R in it! Who wouldn’t? Its such a bad ass robot

Will have to see this movie  Let us know information when they allow for it to be released!!

Nick, very nice models too.

Wow Nick_A! You rock man!

I’m sending these to them for feedback. I wasn’t really given much to go on besides they want four robots, and any PC programs, designs, drawings, CAD files etc, to use as “coolness factors” for use in the robot laboratory set. I will let you know what they say… 8)

Thanks, I will definitely share everything about the movie.
