Litter Robot III Open Air — cat pees on back paw now

Hello @nkanders,

Welcome to RobotShop community.

We are sorry to hear that you are having trouble with your Litter-Robot.

Since you still have 2 more months of the exchange/refund warranty, you can see if the fence would work or not and you can try to train the cat to stop that behavior using treats maybe!

Let us know how it goes.

Sincerely,

Thank you! You described exactly all the issues I’ve been having. And pointed out how frustrating it is to keep being given the response of buy all the accessories. Obviously most people would try those things before seeking out answers in a forum. After all we all decided to buy a very expensive litter box I’m sure we are all aware of add-ons.

Anyways, my 14 year old male cat is a big boy. Like 26lbs big, not really obese as much as he is a big boned cat. I got the stairs for him because he does have a disc issue in his spine. He pee’d half in half out a couple times and then seemed to get used to it. Then I bought the white cabinet for the box and he’s started missing the box everyday. I’ve even rotated the box facing out with the doors open thinking maybe he was confused thinking he was all the way in because he’s inside the cabinet but no luck. So now I’m a good $1000 dollars into this investment and having to deal with a litter box more than I did before. Any suggestions other than buying accessories ( I have them all) would be greatly appreciated.

Hello @Ashess,

Welcome to RobotShop community.

We are sorry to hear that you are having trouble with your Litter-Robot.

Have you tried to guide him towards the box or put any strong-smelled object that he likes inside that cabinet to make him go there and get used to it?

If that didn’t help, try to take out the robot from the cabinet and see if he’ll start to use it again or not.

Awaiting your reply.

Sincerely,

I’ve looked everywhere online, but has anybody found a solution for their cat peeing on their back paw? I have the ramp and fence, use Arm and Hammer clumping litter, and don’t know what else to do. My older cat (~12 years old) has started peeing without turning around in my LR3 as others have mentioned. It’s leading to perpetual wet/litter-covered paw, litter all over the house, and unpleasant smells. Has anybody on this thread found a permanent solution?

Did you find anything that works? My cat has never gone outside the box with his old box and now he ALWAYS pees on the floor. He puts his head in the robot and goes! It’s so frustrating and I can’t believe nobody said this in the reviews. I would have never purchased this product if I had any idea this was such a common problem. It’s maddening!

I sympathize! I’ve never been so disgusted with a purchase! I splurged on this and now I’m cleaning urine off the floor all day. Since this problem is so common, you’d think litter robot would have a solution. So maddening! Did you find anything that worked?

Hello @POnFloor ,

Welcome to RobotShop community.

We are sorry to hear that you are having trouble with your Litter-Robot.

Have you tried the coin trick?

You hang a coin from a string on the entrance of the globe so that the cat would be forced to go inside the globe completely.

If that didn’t work, you can try to teach the cat to turn around by doing that manually then giving the cat a treat whenever it does that on its own etc…

These are just ideas that might help because your issue is related to the behavior of the cat and not an issue with the robot itself so we can’t really help you much :frowning:

The coin trick doesn’t work. Neither does hanging a piece of PVC pipe, or just a string, or a 9" bolt with a perpendicular wooden skewer tied to it.

In fact, I’m pretty sure that last one made it worse: https://www.reddit.com/r/cats/comments/rzkjmk/get_a_front_entry_litterbox_she_said_itll_be_fine/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

Hey everyone new to this site and was reading through some of the complaints of the LR3. I have 3 cats and two LR3s. When it was just the 2 cats everything was absolutely perfect zero complaints. Enter my new baby. She has CH (Cerebellar hypoplasia) or better known as “wobbly cat syndrome”. Long story short her legs don’t always do what her brain tells them to do. We think this may be a cause of her not squating to pee which is the issue we are running into now. She uses the LR3 just fine but when she pees it goes all over the back of the “ball”. This has led to urine leaking out of the ball somehow? Not sure how or where yet but we have had to disassemble them a few times and do a big deep clean to get rid of it.

Does anyone have any insight on where it could be “leaking” from (backside) or suggestions on fixing/stopping it?

Thanks in advanced!

Hello @Krmiller14,

Welcome to RobotShop community.

We are sorry to hear that you are having trouble with your Litter-Robots.

The leakage could be coming from the black key area if you don’t have the beige plug.

Or it could be coming from the sealing of the two halves of the globe.

Try to monitor the cat when she pees and you’ll be able to locate the source of the leakage.

Awaiting your reply.

Thank you! We added a little silicone sealant in a few spots when putting it back together and the key is one of those spots. Fingers crossed that will solve the issue!

Very well, let us know how it goes.

Hey everyone, I’m new here. I am having the same issues a lot of you are having… I have two cats, a 2 year old male and a 15 year old female. While initially my two year old seemed super sketched out by the robot, he now uses it daily. However my senior kitty will climb in, but not fully in, and then squat peeing all over the fence dripping down the front and leaking onto the step…I now have to cover the step with a towel because the urine trickles down into the grooves and somehow gets underneath the rubber and puddles under it. I noticed before buying the litter robot, i had an extra large litterbox with high sides and a low entry. She started peeing on the very inside of that litterbox and always in the same spot every time, leaving me a giant heaping clump of urine to scoop out. She has also NEVER covered her poop and still doesn’t today (maybe, litterbox challenged?)

Just last night after reading through these responses, we decided to tape a coin to the robot. My 2 yr old got in and used it perfectly right away with the coin hanging there, he even couldn’t help but swat at it to watch it swing back and forth when he was done. Fast forward to this morning, when got out of the shower I noticed urine puddled on the fence so my thought of “so far so good” went out the window…

I have been using Worlds best cat litter, lavender scent or original for the last few years but now come to think of it I’m wondering if the litter is the problem, so we are now looking into getting a different brand with clay that clumps.

Once I get the new litter in there we will see what happens! I’m also leaving the coin hanging there for now. The little staircase may be another soon purchase as well.

As there is a suggestion to use a coin, the company should built something that makes the cat goes fully in. May be the LR should come with the coin already there as seems a general issue

Have you has any luck solving this issue please? I am very frustrated and my poor cat also seems frustrated himself as his paws get dirty and cats don’t like being dirty

Hello @monica_angel,

Welcome to RobotShop community.

We are sorry to hear that you are having trouble with your Litter-Robot.

The manufacturer provides a part called “fence” which could help the cat get fully inside the globe.

However, the main issue is to make the cat turn around after getting inside the globe and that’s why we suggest using the coin trick to make the cat look behind her and turn around.

Let us know if there’s anything else we could assist you with.
