Litter-Robot III Open Air Basic Troubleshooting Guide | RobotShop Community

Our open air cycles thru dumping the litter but when it starts back, it stops and both the red yellow lights are flashing. The manual says motor obstructed or jammed. We can not find anything physically blocking. What next? Thank you

I have a blue light and a orange light on at the same time can’t get rid of it and robot is not filtering well at all. thoughts?

Pee is getting stuck to the rubber and then not getting dumped into the bottom during a cycle. I have filled it to the indicated line, and am using Scwheat scoops Clumping Litter.

@Kitte, If the unit doesn’t cycle after the cat has used it, please try the following :

The unit is pretty sensitive and can pick-up weight from hands, arms, or other objects resting on the unit when “reset” is pressed. The unit should also be pulled away from a wall. Make sure you do not press on the Litter-Robot when you press the reset button.

We need to troubleshoot your cat sensor system (CATS). This is based on your description of a solid blue light after the cat has left the unit. Please try the following:

[NOTE: When attempting to activate CATS, troubleshoot with the following technique. We recommend applying pressure from the top of the globe entrance (not on the bonnet). Use a downward motion that pushes away from your body]

  1. Attempt to manually cycle the unit by pressing the “cycle” button. If the unit cycles properly, move to the next step.
  2. Reset the CATS by turning the unit off then on using the power button.
  3. During the start-up cycle, push on the unit to see if the CATS activates. If it does, press “reset” to pause the cycle, then press “reset” again to return the unit to home position.
  4. After the unit is on and in the home position, apply pressure to the unit. Does CATS activate (red light indicator)? If you apply more pressure, how much does it take to activate?
  5. If your unit switches to a red light after applying excessive pressure, consider the surface area that your unit is on (see below). If the CATS does not engage, refer to step 5.
  6. If your CATS does not engage, leave the unit off & unplugged. Notify us so we can make the necessary arrangements based on warranty.

The surface for your Litter-Robot should be hard to avoid the unit taking on extra absorption of weight. If the unit is sitting steady on the ground, but has a dip in the middle, the sensor may require much more weight to trigger. Instead, try putting the unit on a surface that is flat, such as a board. If your unit is on tile, we recommend that the back, center, of the unit is resting on the flat part of the tile and not on a grout line. Do not allow the unit to have items rest on it or be pushed up against the wall. Avoid resting on the unit when pressing the “reset” button.

@Audree,
The motor will probably have to be replaced.
Did you buy the robot with us? If yes, please contact us in our Domestic robots support center department.

@Jeff, If the blue-yellow light stays ON, it means that the 8 hour sleep mode has been activated. Only hold the CYCLE button for approximately 5 second and the alarm should go.

@Melissa, If you are using the sWheat Scoop Litter, make sure that you are using the multi-cat or premium+ for better results. However, we can’t guarantee the efficiency of litter made of wheat.

My litter robot keeps activating the cat sensor (flashing red light). I have tried taking all the litter out, I have turned it off/on and unplugged it from the mains.

If I press reset it will sometimes perform a cycle and then the red light will start flashing again immediately, other times I have to press reset repeatedly to get it to perform the full cycle, after which the red light is on again immediately. Is there a way to reset the cat sensor? Could there be something wrong with the way the globe is sitting in the base causing the sensor to be activated?

Thanks!

@Serena
Please check your unit for the following:

  • The litter is above the fill line or in excess of 10lbs.
  • CATS has not been reset after adding weight
  • The waste drawer has too much weight
  • The unit is sitting on an uneven surface ‐ grout lines on tile floor or in a bathtub.
  • The unit is pushed into a corner, against a wall, or furniture
  • Objects are resting or pressing on the unit

The red blinking light indicates CATS (the cat sensor) is detecting excess weight for more than 2 minutes. To test your changes, power the unit off and then on. Allow the unit to complete the start‐up cycle and return Home with a solid blue light. Your unit is operating normal. If it continues to flash, let us know so we can troubleshoot further.

Always press Reset after emptying the waste drawer, adding litter, or moving the unit. You can also turn the unit OFF then ON to ensure the baseline is set properly. When pressing Reset, watch for the blue light to quickly flash one time. This indicates CATS has been successfully reset.

If none of the above solves the issue:

  1. Remove the bonnet.
  2. Remove the globe
  3. Replace the bonnet
  4. Press Cycle (without the globe on the unit)
  5. Allow the motor to run for 5 seconds, at any point, does it stop and flash red? If no, then excess weight needs to be removed from the globe. If yes, (it blinks red), your unit will need to be repaired.

Hi, My cat is using litter robot 3 since January, and it stoped working since 3 days. There is no lights, I don’t know what to do. I did a reset last month because the blue light was always flashing even if the base was empty.

@Guylaine Does the control panel seems hot while it is plugged in? Do you have a voltmeter to test the power supply?

@Mathieu How do I got about arranging a repair?

After going through all the steps and resetting CATS the sensor will trigger by itself and then the red light will start flashing again. It also interupts if it does manage to start a cycle.

@Serena Please contact our team via our support center with your order and explain briefly your problem.

I am constantly coming home to rhe stopped cycling light being lit up. Usually I can hold the reset button down for 5 seconds and it will come off and then I hit cycle and it will cycle. But today it is just stuck with the stop cycling light on. No matter what I try I cannot get it to cycle, this includes unplugging the unit and powering It Off.

Hi, I read your replies above for the red light illuminating. Your constant reply was as per below:

Now, my question is, when you say that the unit needs to be replaced, which part of the unit needs to be replaced? Is it the motor? Or something else?
    Please let me know ASAP.

Appreciate your prompt reply

Hi,

In that case, the Wire Harness will have to be replaced. Did you buy the robot with us? If you did, please open a ticket trough our support center and one of our Domestic Specialist will assist you.

Hi,
The part that will need to be replaced is the Cat Sensor. It’s available on our Website.

My Litter-Robot III Open Air will continuously cycle. There is about a 2 minute span in between each time it starts cycling. I have tried the Fresh Reset but still not working. No lights seem to be indicating any issue, however it just chooses to cycle over and over and over. The cycle each time appears to work fine and nothing seems to be wrong. Please help! Thanks!
