Hunter MiniVTail

Hey guys/gals,

I am thinking of using the Hunter VTail Mini as a base for a simple project, but as I’m new to all this was wondering if I could pick some brains.

I am looking for recommendations on motors and electronics, and also battery for this size frame. I plan to control it via arduino and xbee, and I’ve had some success recently build my own motor controller board using a Quad-H Bridge driver IC and some additional components, so I think I am fine in that area.

Thanks for any and all help,
Paul

Sure, that’s the purpose of a forum, so welcome!

You’re planing on using brushed motors if i understand right ?
We’re in the process of getting motors/ESC’s for this little beast, but they’re not yet ready.

A working setup might be:
Motor : Suppo A1510
ESC : Suppo 10A
FC : Flipboard (multiwii 2.1 VTAIL4 Patched)
Props : Gemfan 5x3
Battery : 1000mAh 3s 45C Nanotech

rcgroups.com/forums/showpost … ostcount=6

So I have parts galore for 400 -500 sized quadcopters, etc - but I don’t have a nice collection of ESCs or motors for the mini size 200-280mm sized guys. So I would be very interested in a Hunter Vtail Mini base combo kit if that is possibly in the works

We are waiting on some samples at the moment for testing.
Also looking at other motor manufacturer to get motors.

Hello Eric ! What’s the maximum propeller size it will accomodate ? I recently bought some Turnigy C2028 1400kv to use
With my mini. While I wait for them to arrive, I’m doing some simulation on ecalc and checking out what
Propellers I can find. Was thinking on a 3 blade prop, 6x6x3 if they fit in.
There are even some tmotors around that size, but for now they’re out my budget for this first mini hunter.

Okay so the 250mm range multi-rotor is all the rage right now. It’s is about impossible to find the electronics to put one together - everywhere I look everything is out of stock. So I will very much be looking forward to a package set for the Vtail mini when you guys get that going. Are you planning on an ARF - frame, motor, esc, power dist - minus receiver and fc? Eric make sure you guys order tons of props for the mini, I plan on buying up a bunch. I am ordering a bunch of replacement legs - I seem to go through them the most

Mini Time!!! - So I am putting together parts for the mini - going to try these out

myrcmart.com/rcx-12a-esc-bru … -6661.html (12A ESC) x 4
myrcmart.com/zmr-1804-2400kv … -6281.html x 3 of the clockwise
myrcmart.com/rcx-1804-2400kv … -6280.html x 3 of the anti clockwise as they say

So I wanna try these on the mini Hunter Vtail. I have been watching videos on the Blackout H quad and spider hex. So I may be messing around with them too, but mini quad frame, the Hunter Vtail is the least expensive and I love my larger Vtail.

I love ordering the props from you guys, I just bought a bunch of leg replacements and 3/4 pack of props in Yellow, Orange and Black for 10 size, hoping to get some 5" x 2 or x 3

Are you guys going to fix the size on the Website the mini is saying it’s 400mm, what is it actually 280/250?

OH… yes just fixed the size… Sorry and thanks for the info.
I’m still waiting on sample motors to try here… take forever…

Wow - love the way the mini 250 range size fly. I am going to be picking up the Vtail mini soon. I have some more RCX 1804-2400Kv, that I am currently using on the QAV250 mini FPV quad frame. So quick and responsive - gotta try out these motors on the mini Vtail. Eric, how are motors, esc and props for the mini size coming along.

Here is a vid I did today with the QAV250 for your viewing pleasure

I received a set of motor Monday (finally…) and will mount them as soon as i have 2 minutes.
We are still looking at another manufacturer of motor that i would like to supply…

Nice, please post all your specs and a video link. That rocks.

So as popular as the RCX 1804 is, you can’t use it with this frame?.. Darn…
The hole for the motor is only 21mm according to the specs…

At 23.5mm, can the frame be modded to fit these motors?

You can mount the motor arm upside down and mount the motor like that.

Eric

What motors are you looking at. I will mess with a way to use those RCX motors, they are so damn cheap, I picked up 5 (CW) and 5 (CCW) version of them, using 4 (2 CW), 2(CCW) for my QAV250, so was hoping to slap the other motors on. I was checking out Emax motors - Stone Blue Airlines are using them on the XHover frame. I was thinking of picking up some MultiStar motors from HobbyKing, I have their super cheap $9.99 FPV250 frame coming - my buddy picked up a couple, but the RCX holes don’t fit on the bottom. Got a couple sets of these ordered from PI Engineer over on rcgroups: rcgroups.com/forums/showthre … st28008348

I ordered a few FLIP MultiWiis, I had to do another order I forgot them when I ordered the 2 Vtail mini frames and the ESC :frowning:, I am on the hunt and ordering up various Mini size motors. Going to check out the much more expensive Hacker A10 motors - gonna see what they have at the local hobby shop, they carry hacker motors.

From what I have been seeing on smaller motors, the Emax are also 23mm like the RCX. Wonder how the Bell type like this: hobbyking.com/hobbyking/stor … 19g.html that motor is 22mm, not sure if it clears. It’s not a real big deal, just put the arms together upside down.

The MultiStar is a 21mm: hobbyking.com/hobbyking/stor … unner.html

So Eric, I am thinking you made the hole for the motors a bit too small

At the time, the motors available were limited.
I have a set of T-Motor motors here to test and we are looking at another brand of motors to supply, not only for the Mini but for all frames in order to offer a lower cost solution.

My 2 mini vtail frames came in the mail today. I have the RCX1804s to test out on it - so going to work with that this coming week. I will post info and pics. I ordered from get FPV the FXC1806-14 2300Kv motors - I hear rumor they are rebranded t-motors, they are 23mm diameter. I got these mainly for my QAV250, but may try them on the hunter.

Now that’s cool.
Get that baby in air…!

Okay so I put together the mini frame, love it, small light, it’s going to be great. I got the Lynxmotion 12A ESC (simonk) - what the heck gives with Deans ends and 3/3.5 mm bullet, it should be 2mm Eric, I am going to end up snipping everything off and soldering up 2mm bullets. I have a hobbyking 2mm power dist board, but I am thinking about just wiring up my own power dist cable. That 3DR fits but is too bulky, so this week going to the hobby shop to buy up all their 2mm bullet connectors.

The RCX motors fit nicely if you flip the directions, you can see in my image the RCX motors with 5" props have plenty of clearance. This Friday my MultiWii flip boards should be coming in, so if I can get my connectors for power -> esc -> motor connections all taken care of I can probably get this in the air this weekend.

I have been loving the Horizon mode on the MultiWii and have been flipping the big 500 - my last flip didn’t work so well and I broke the arm off and cracked the back arm on that side as well. I got me some spare parts, but thse mini quads are so cool, it may be a bit before I fix him

Yeah, those are a bit overkill but they are not made to be on a mini …
The fit is not bad with motor inverted.
