Building a Computer

Is there suppose to be any irony in that post or are you again hi-jacking my thread without any intention to stop :imp: :smiling_imp:

lol

LOL

Getting back on topic…

I contacted geeks.com yesturday becuase they made a mistake with my order. I recieved a reply today with confirmation that the error has been fixed and my package is now in queue for shipment.

Very Exciting

I love being a geeks.com geek,how about you?
Jk

**UPDATE: Order from Geeks.com was shipped out today via UPSS. Im hoping to get it within 2-3 weeks (before school starts) that way I can go into overdrive and get this computer set up and mostly complete.

Im sure the toughest part will be hooking up the wires to the motherboard. Since this is my first scratch build I want to make a tutorial on this and post it for anyone interested in building something like mine. My digital camera will be coming as well, which will give me a chance to post pictures of this and of my many other projects on the forums.

Looking forward to Chris delivering my parts **

Cool.

I thought it would be hard to plug the motherboard in too, but it wasn’t very simple! Both the motherboard and cables are labeled with standard names. Simply plug in the cable to the labeled area. The motherboard’s manual explains it in a more detailed wait if you cant figure it out.

What is the final list of parts you got for the rig?

Here is a list of everything I have to put this monster together:
HAPPY-4 – 12-Bay ATX Computer Case w/Front Panel LED Black
D80SH-12-BULK – Foxconn 3x3 80 mm Case Fan Black
BLK-60MM-CASEFAN – 2.36’’ x 2.36’’ 60mm Case Fan Black
PSOM480 – Omega 480W 20+4-pin Dual Fan ATX Power Supply w/SATA Black
ADO3800CSBOX – AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ 512KB Skt AM2 Dual-Core CPU - Retail
BLK-SOHR-5239V – Lite-On SOHR-5239V 52x32x52 CD-RW IDE Drive Black
C633-R – Kodak EasyShare C633 6.1MP 3xOpt/5x Digital 16MB Zoom Camera
GeForce 6800GT overclocked from BFG
Abit UL8 motherboard
2GB DDR RAM 400MhZ CL3

Everything but the hardrive is in there. Im still undecided on how much I need.

The speakers I have is a set of two with a small subwoofer. Ive used them before and it delivers excellent audio! A lot of power in it. I’ll be aqcuiring these from my sister.

Any questions?

Yea.

Did you, or did you not, read my warnings I made in the sale thread of the abit board and gfx card?

yes. Chris, told me the technology is old, but it will still work better than what I have now.

The answer is NO! YOU DID NOT read my warning.

My warning was the Abit board is a SOCKET 939. You bought a SOCKET AM2 CPU! Make sure you have a hammer handy because it won’t fit otherwise.

As for what chris said, yes its true. 939 is old, but AM2 is only 1% faster because of DDR2 memory.

I deffinately posted my list of parts before ordered therefore, everyone that responded to it said it was right… :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

I only noticed one list in the first post which didn’t have detailed info.

I was going to ask for your list, but you already ordered your hardware when I checked this thread >_<

right, but if the mb does support AMD athlon 64 x2, than why are you saying it wont fit? The one i bought isnt the newer version its a retail (refurb) so dollars to doughnuts is it is the older model which may fit.

read my pm.

This motherboard is a 939. The CPU you ordered is an AM2.

Lets put it this way. AM2 has 940 pins while the 939 has 939 pins. The CPU will not fit into the socket unless you hammer it in. In which case you will destroy the CPU and possibly the motherboard.

Another way to think of sockets is like those “put the shape in the hole” toys you might of played with as a child.

Pretend of the socket as a shape. You can only fit the circle into the circle shape. And the triangle only in the triangle. You might want to put the circle into the triangle but it doesn’t fit. So you take a hammer and bash it in. Then you start crying because your triangle is broken and the box is broken.

Think of the triangle as the CPU and box as the motherboard

I don’t know of any other way to explain it.

No one said it would fit,it said on the page of the Link to the Motherboard that it is Compable with the motherboard.

EDIT : this is the Link that you pointed out :

lol, noob.

I said it won’t fit.

I said No One said it Would Fit

My bad. Misread the post.

I looked over the thread, and I can’t find one post where you mention you are getting an AM2 CPU. So I guess its kind of your fault =P

It’s a very stupid creation of AMD to come out with one proccessor that uses two kinds of sockets becuase I just saw an x2 on geeks.com that is compatible with 939 socket. ( a proccessor I thought I bought :stuck_out_tongue: ). Now im going to have to exchange the proccessors.

Thanks anyways… I know who I can trust

Well, now it will take you even longer to build it,and hopefully you will get it done before the end of summer
