I contacted geeks.com yesturday becuase they made a mistake with my order. I recieved a reply today with confirmation that the error has been fixed and my package is now in queue for shipment.
**UPDATE: Order from Geeks.com was shipped out today via UPSS. Im hoping to get it within 2-3 weeks (before school starts) that way I can go into overdrive and get this computer set up and mostly complete.
Im sure the toughest part will be hooking up the wires to the motherboard. Since this is my first scratch build I want to make a tutorial on this and post it for anyone interested in building something like mine. My digital camera will be coming as well, which will give me a chance to post pictures of this and of my many other projects on the forums.
I thought it would be hard to plug the motherboard in too, but it wasn’t very simple! Both the motherboard and cables are labeled with standard names. Simply plug in the cable to the labeled area. The motherboard’s manual explains it in a more detailed wait if you cant figure it out.
What is the final list of parts you got for the rig?
Here is a list of everything I have to put this monster together:
HAPPY-4 – 12-Bay ATX Computer Case w/Front Panel LED Black

Everything but the hardrive is in there. Im still undecided on how much I need.
The speakers I have is a set of two with a small subwoofer. Ive used them before and it delivers excellent audio! A lot of power in it. I’ll be aqcuiring these from my sister.
right, but if the mb does support AMD athlon 64 x2, than why are you saying it wont fit? The one i bought isnt the newer version its a retail (refurb) so dollars to doughnuts is it is the older model which may fit.
This motherboard is a 939. The CPU you ordered is an AM2.
Lets put it this way. AM2 has 940 pins while the 939 has 939 pins. The CPU will not fit into the socket unless you hammer it in. In which case you will destroy the CPU and possibly the motherboard.
Another way to think of sockets is like those “put the shape in the hole” toys you might of played with as a child.
Pretend of the socket as a shape. You can only fit the circle into the circle shape. And the triangle only in the triangle. You might want to put the circle into the triangle but it doesn’t fit. So you take a hammer and bash it in. Then you start crying because your triangle is broken and the box is broken.
Think of the triangle as the CPU and box as the motherboard
It’s a very stupid creation of AMD to come out with one proccessor that uses two kinds of sockets becuase I just saw an x2 on geeks.com that is compatible with 939 socket. ( a proccessor I thought I bought ). Now im going to have to exchange the proccessors.
