Anyways, getting back on topic, the driver for my audio card dosnt come with the package so Im geussing Im going to have to download it from their website: us.creative.com/support/
My order is still proccessing so Im preparing all the bits and ends I have to add.
One large question and a series of smaller ones - Why? What is your need for all that RAM and all the CPU cycles? Just a guess off the top of my head - but you will be wasting your money if you go this route with no real purpose or end game to the upgrade madness. I use a quad core with 2GB RAM at work to drive a $105,000 dollar piece of equipment that captures dozens and dozens of sensor data and processes dozens of I/O requests on a continual basis. At the end of all this I still have so processing power much left I can run 98% of all applications on the market with leftover cycles and remaining RAM. All for a $6000 computer with no bleeding edge graphics card installed. Save your money and buy last years model. Then 2 years from now buy next year’s model. If you stay 1-2 years behind the bleeding edge you will find you are not missing anything (certainly not cash from your momma’s wallet), you will be practicing patience and still learning the art of the build.
And you can laugh at those who continue to run the rat race for the next fad in computer upgrades. Wait while the trees are shaken and all the fat monkeys fall out before venturing up the same tree. Bleeding edge is painful crash.
You do not need SATA cables, SATA power cables, IDE cables, a sound card. I will be providing these as part of your purchase. Before you go slap shop happy PM for what it you think you need surrounding this MB and I will tell you if it is included.
and to Chris’s point, why in the bloody #$%^ do you think you NEED to run vista? just to prove you too can be led joyfully over the cliff like every other lemming? wait for SP1, maybe SP2. let the other lemmings make the cash plunge into NEEDED hardware to run a crappy OS just so they can suffer through the windows updates and driver incompatibilities and discovering the most secure OS yet isn’t really saying as much as they would like you to believe it is.
The only reason I would like to run Windows Vista is becuase one of my older sisters purchased it when she bought herself a new laptop. I figured I could get more entertainment options and better graphics from the OS if I used it rather than XP.
It is for many. Just like Windows 2000 was better than XP. Just like 95 was better than 98 etc. etc. etc. The only reason I moved away from 2000 was because of gaming support. The only reason I moved away from 95 was because I was ignorant.
The best operating system is the one you understand the most and that does whats needed - plain and simple. If it aint broke dont buy a new one with one or two more bells and whistles.
Go ahead - keep downloading the service packs. Hell - i’ve been doing it for 12 years. Once again bleeding edge isnt always the best option. Let the fat monkeys fall. Just my 12 cents - take it for what its worth.
Thats some good advice. I love XP and I dont want to upgrade to Vista, it was just a thought for again, being able to upgrade to it later as things change. The 2GB are still neccessary for me IMO becuase I play a lot of online games, and Im very familiar with picture and audio skipping, as well as poor speed of the game.
Huh? What service packs? Vista SP1 won’t be released until nov/dec of 2007… Wtf you guys talking about?
Stay with XP. Simple as that. Vista requires 2gb of ram to function decently, and 3-4gb to play games. XP runs amazing with just 2gb of ram. XP SP3 is coming out in jan/feb of 2008. Get XP SP2 now, and get the SP3 later. No need for vista. Skip vista and get vienna in 2009.
Listen to the man The Q6600 came out back in jan for like $900 (retail of around a grand)… July 22nd, they release a better version that uses a lower voltage for only $266 (retail of $300). I bought my AMD X2 for $99. When it was released, it was like well over $600.
Stay a little behind and you get great performance for a low $
Yup, buying retail too! I got that Athlon 64 X2 for $77.00 on geeks.com, brand new it would have been $130.00! Im deffinately staying with XP (with the 2BG I got ) and I’ll wait for the SP3 as well. That’s deffinately going to be the best thing. Again, the Vista idea was no more than well…an idea
Thanks for the info again guys, appreciate it. All I have to do now is straighten out the order I goofed up on and I’ll have my equipment soon! Than get ready for a tutorial galour (sp?) of pics and text on how I’m building this (yup, ordered a Digital camera while I was at it ) so get ready for pics 8)
As soon as my job hunting is successful, I’ll begin saving up for more on my Science fair project, but this little project should keep me busy for a while. I just hope I finish it in time for school to start, grade 11 would be rough without a computer
Vienna is the name of Microsoft’s new Windows operating system that is planned for release in late 2009. This means spending $100-400 on vista is a waste of money.
Microsoft said Vienna will be completely redesigned (Unlike Vista which was based on the Server 2003 code). And Vienna will be completely different from all other windows OS. There are some rumors I read/heard about it being unix based, them getting rid of the registry, and killing viruses and spyware for good.
Hey,don’t start cursing at me ,I Never really watched TV that long ago,and i havn’t ever heard them saying anything about it when they announced Vista.
sry,i didn’t mean to hack.
hey,is i was to sell my compute, would anybody be interested in it for $400?
because,i really don’t need it anymore,i could use the money to get parts for a new one.
