The idea is that it would fly similar to a single body helicopter, and be used for practical things like flying to a store, but I am unsure where to start when it comes to engine torque, type, etc. I looked around at some ideas for design and I like a tri-propeller design or perhaps something like the flying bike (which has 4 propellers)
Other ideas include just making a jet pack using aerogel for protection against heat

I’m no expert on the subject but I thought should mention there is a great tutorial here named How to Make a Drone / UAV which will guide you through the process of building your own UAV using off-the-shelf parts, it will also help you understand the terminology and the different options you can choose from.
Finally, I think you should also check out the Robots section, there you will find many different UAVs (and other robotics projects) from which you can get some inspiration or guidance, and you could also share yours once you have started it.
