A ramming head? I don’t think you can get away with that! It needs to have the little jaws (?) come out of the mouth!

Removed the head butting plate. i kept on looking at it and thinking …no. so here is an update on the current sculpt.

that’s better!
Now don’t forget the “ram” of smaller teeth (?) that come out of the mouth!
Nice work Jonny!

well because of the way the jaw mech is and works, i would never get the space to add the inner jaw. im afraid they were never going to be part of this. i think if i had the tools i could have cut my own parts but i can only do what is seen.
thanks for the feedback Alan. you’v moved me in the right direction.
Happy if I could help a little bit, I certainly can’t sculpt!
Yeah, I understand the limitations of building a complex mechanism! It gets tough to add in more mechanical features. I lucked out on the ASB13 'bot, as I found that I needed a 1" spacer to get the floor-looking sensors far enough forward to detect the edge of the table before the 'bot fell off! I was able to slip in a jaw servo in the spacer’s space. However, now the 'bot is twice as long as I’d initially envisioned! It’s a little easier on the Micromoose, I just add another deck (layer).

sculpting the Alien video:
Keep the cool videos comming!
Even if I don’t post very often, I do follow your work.
thanks Zenta,
Well i have an exciting video lined up but i wont be posting it in till the head is complete.
Just waiting for the funding to get more materials to make the moulds, shouldn’t be too long.
its great to know you still check in. Even though it has nothing to do with Hexapods it nice to know others still have an interest.
Hi Innerbreed,
Zenta is not the only one following this project with baited breath. Ever since you posted that great video showing the jaws moving with the lip wires doing their own wave-like slathering, slurping motion on top of the teeth, I have been checking every day to see how it would look wih the lips fleshed out so to speak.
We can forgive the occasional delay for amassing supplies, doing the work, earning a living, and eating and sleeping once in awhile; but try not to try our patience too much.
After all, if you weren’t so incredibly good at it we wouldn’t care, would we?
Oh, can you add some sort of hydraulics to make it salivate?
I’m watching too…
wow thanks, im glad you like it.
LOL.
Oh thats a relief. the weight has been lifted.
oh stop it…
you know what 'iv been thinking about this but we will have to see what happens.
and taking notes?
thanks Jim.
LOL,
Seems like you’ve got a lot of silent followers Jonny. Here’s another one I don’t check every topic but this in one of the topics I check on each visit.
You’re doing cool stuff with all the clay and paint! Love you’re skills
Xan
Thanks Jeroen,
Well it seems my Hawk project is attracting the attention of buyers. i have had two enquires of sale!
I should soon be ordering the rest of the materials for the Alien Head so more developments on that soon. takes a few days for the bits to arrive but i cant wait to mould this and get the head cast painted.! : over excited emoticon here :
J
Oh crap you pulled out the infamous J… Wow!
materials ordered for the next phase:
For the Mould:
RTV Silicone Mould Making Rubber
Repsil Silicone RTV Moulding Rubber THICKENER ADDITIVE
For the Cast:
EasyFlo 120 Polyurethane Liquid Plastic, Rotocast
Polytek Polycolor Dye / Pigment - Black
Time to get this bad boy moulded!
here is the first RTV brushed on coat i did with what i had left.

Note to self: Dont use silver foil with silicone. It Sticks Like S*** to a blanket!
Who wants to be first to ask him how he knows this?
LOL.
Here is the second layer of silicone. (materials arrived)
you will notice this one doesnt look like it melting. a thickening additive “TA2” was added to the
silicone to allow me to create a thinker layer that can be applied with a stir stick.
this also helped with the amount i needed. no silicone was wasted here.
The next step will be to Plaster Master mould around the silicon… then… de-mould ready for casting.
Hey, Innerbreed,
Glad to see some progress - at long last, Jonny. Waiting for supplies can be a drag. It’s too bad these steps necessarily obscure the character of the beast. Right now it looks like you’ve spent all this time designing the shoulder pad of a crutch or a scaled-up head of a walking stick.
Why not make a non-operating version scaled properly for a walking stick or cane?
Cast in brass, indestructable plastic, or kryptonite, you could have an interesting by-product certainly as interesting as all the “Wolfman” stick heads. You are developing a fan base, and some might like a novelty item tied identifiably with all this robotics/animatronics. (My peg-legged brother loves using distinctive canes with his prosthesis, and I could use one with my artritic hips.) So there are two orders just waiting to be placed.
lol. ill send the patents off now.
well id like to go full term with the curing times on this. 12-24 hours. its touch try already but the longer i leave it the more ridged the mould. and it will last longer. Hay i might be able to cast a few for sale too. also comes with the bottom jaw ready for attachment to main head. could be a little earner…, Ah, im now torn between Alien Head Models and Canes!!!
