Alien Xenomorph sculpt - Animatronic WIP

Production Preview Video:

Really… Really… Really… Impress by your work.
You combine arts, mechanics, programmation… etc

I enjoy your project

You have amazing skills. I have enjoyed following your project since I joined the forum, and I prepare myself to be astonished and educated every time I look at one of your new posts. I also build G-scale model railroad displays in addition to dabbling in robots, and I can see application crossovers from your animatronic mechanisms to some of my active display modules.

Dare I ask the derivation of your moniker, ā€œInnerbreedā€? Does it relate (pun intended) to ā€œinbredā€ or ā€œinbreedingā€ which on my side of the pond is usually taken to imply an unfortunately diminished mental and physical skills capacity. While that might explain your self proclaimed loss of marbles, your wonderful models give the lie to any notion of impaired capacities.

Thank you for sharing your projects with us. Both the results and the revealed processes are inspiring. *

thanks Eric. its nice to see other like what i do.

Ted, thanks for your comments there, its great to inspire and gives me a sense of reason.
*Innerbreed *… im glad you asked. although im surprised its the first time iv been asked! :open_mouth:
It comes from my old DJ/music production days

I Split the meaning from two words to create one word.

INNER:
1.
situated within or farther within; interior: an inner door.
2.
more intimate, private, or secret: the inner workings of the organization.
3.
of or pertaining to the mind or spirit; mental; spiritual: the inner life.
4.
not obvious; hidden or obscure: an inner meaning.

BREED:
1.
To produce or reproduce (not meaning life). although i do have two children.lol
2.
To raise distinguishable characteristics, often to produce new or improved types.
3.
Developed by artificial selection and maintained by controlled propagation.
4.
To originate and develop: Mischief breeds in bored minds.

But yes i do realise that others might think it means inbred.
thanks for asking.
 … oh your right. it does look like a laughing lime. lol love your sense of humour.

Thanks, Jonny. Your illucidation is murkily revealing. Your choices of phrases to emphasize within your explanation tend toward the most covert, clandestine, occult (in the sense of hidden), and the manipulatively creative spawning of objects to control absolutely. Just the sort of mind set I admire in a person. :smiling_imp: I’ll bet your DJ gig didn’t tend toward toddlers’ birthday parties.

Have you considered becoming a spymaster in your next life? :stuck_out_tongue:

Ted

Lol. i guess names just stick.

more updates soon…

ok i was going to save this update for the morning when the lighting is better 'but why wait.

Anyway,
Here is the internal ribbing that will strengthen the structure and also make the dome fabrication easier.
I’m a novice when it comes to some of this stuff so I’m moving along with this project in steps, trying new things and ideas. this being said, i still didnt learn from my last project. I should have made the sculpture and cast the head before i made the internal structure but hay thats me.

So from what you see i plan to cover the 18.5" :open_mouth: structure with a film. This will allow me to cover it in a plaster bandage to form the basic shape. once hardened i can start sculpting over the top. Then form the mould and cast the polyurethane head! he says. lol

Great idea! I may borrow it to make the skin for my penguin… The puppeteer relationship doesn’t seem to be working out.

im glad you like this idea, and happy for you to adopt it for peter. i would say use polyurethane liquid plastic to make the under-skull (body), and then it can be divided up for each section of the body, allowing it to move. then here you could cast a latex or silicone skin from the same mould, and stretch it over the whole thing.?

Then you can add what ever covering you like. i would probably cover him in a fine fur (black & White), and then use hair clippers to shave the fur down to the required length.

Humm…
Do i see a video… No i don’t see a video… Why do i don’t see a video… Interesting question… where is the video…

some updates on the ribbing structure.

Looking Great!

I sure would hate to run into that in the dark

Kurt

lol.
im contemplating on whether to fit the head to a small child’s hard hat and have my youngest son run up and down my street.

Nah, you need it to pot out of his stomach!

Alan KM6VV

im thinking of adding a mechanical neck design to accompany the head.

iv been adopting some ideas including using a delta robot design or just a heavy duty Pan and tilt with rotate. at the moment the head probably weighs about 3/4 pounds. anybody have any good suggestions?

How about several vertebra, use your pull-cables again, and with four servos, control it any way you want!

Alan KM6VV

it wont be strong enough. i did test on the earlier version you saw, and as well as it worked (unfortunately i didn’t record it) it would lack strength. something like that would be ideal for compact lightish devices but i have the room to make a larger neck mech. that will perform better and shouldn’t fail.

iv been looking at something like this:
youtube.com/watch?v=NrBwFfyGPk8
or this:
youtube.com/watch?v=VM_LLWgcHWs

both mounted to a base rotate.?

those two look like they’d work!

Which one are you going to build?

Alan KM6VV

Well iv been looking at new ideas for the sculpt and as you know im going for a different design.
This design doesn’t include the shooting tongue either.

So, iv been thinking of changing the way it would ā€œattackā€.!
Some ideas include having a protruding bone from the front of the skull, that could be used to barge its prey?
like a pachycephalosaurus dinosaur:

its a new idea so im expecting some upset alien fans. on the other hand it might be excepted as a good idea?

Remember you saw it here first!!

dont worry about the strange looking dropped jaw. it wont look like that once iv finished. just a process that allows me to work close to the mech as pos.
