As mentioned before, i’m going for a custom look to this Animatronic Alien bust 'hence the teeth’s bite is not copied from the original.
i have added a custom paint job too. i didnt want to go with the black skinned, grey/silver teeth, so iv opted for a “more organic” look. i hope.
Well i have managed to find some work from it. been asked to paint someone’s whole collection of Alien & Predator resin model kits. plus sculpt/mould and cast a new base from polyurethane plastic for one of the kits.
I have slightly changed the colour of the jaw. iv removed most of the reddish colour and have darkened some of the areas. i realise that most of the colour will be covered by the latex lips and these will have their own colour to blend in.
DialFonZo has happy offered his services to make up some parts for the main structure of the head from some drawings iv sent him. Once these have been processed we can show you the idea and start forming the head sculpture.
i have redesigned the jaw mech and works much better and more efficiently.
here is the code i have written for the ALIEN project. i need help with one of the servo responses.
**What the code is doing:
**
using the PS2 each servo responds to button/stick commands similar to that of a pan/tilt or robot arm.
by moving the j/stick “in this case for the Jaw servo” the servo will rotate at the given **speed **to its destination 'dependant on how far i move the stick. a small movement on the stick will make the servo turn slowly in till it completes its rotation.
what i would like to happen is have the servo move and mimic the stick movement. so the stick is controlling its **position **not speed. the speed will then be controlled by how fast the stick is moved.
eg if i move the stick half way up, then the servo will complete half its potential rotation. moving the stick right up will make the servo move to its full rotation. returning the stick will return the servo!
Iv installed the servos for the Jaw and lower lip.
A simple test allowed me to set the correct limitations for the servos. next ill be building the main head chassis. i have ordered some nice 5mm Matt BLACK PVC FOAM Board or Sintra. this will not be supporting the head but it will be used to hold the electrics and form the internal structure for me to then form the outer casing and crest of the head. http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/innerbreed/SAM_0319.jpg http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd355/innerbreed/SAM_0322.jpg
Iv also been looking at ideas for the lip material. after some initial tests with the HAWK i have a good idea were to start.
Here we have the first half of the Main plate ready for testing.
I will be changing the side lip wires for thinner wire to match the wire for the front, as seen running down the middle.
here is an exclusive test i just shot of the lip wires. one wire (right side) is not connected at the moment as i was doing a small repair but this test give you and idea of how it works, and also give me a chance to hear feedback on it?
Seriously, the lip mechanism is quite interesting.
I finally got around to using ball links to work my jaws. And now I have a project at work that will require an R/C servo, ball links, and an Arduino UNO to run it! Sweet!
Ah, thats really cool Jonny!
I like how you divided the upper lips using 3 individual servos. Thats gonna be scary cool when finished.
I do wish I had you artistic skills. Very impressive!
thanks guys, Well its cool to be working on new ideas and project. kinda the direction iv always wanted to go, and much of my learning has been right here, with you guys.
Yes the left and right lip wire have independent servos with there own channels 'while the top and bottom front wires have there own independent servo but share the same channel, so the lip opens top/bottom at the same time. I had to remove the back of one of the servos and swap the -+ wires on the motor and on the pot so it runs in reverse.
Mount that thing inside your button up shirt on Halloween. lol That would be so awesome. C’mon up here and get your candy little kids… Fwaap! Arrrrgh! Arrrrgh! Arrrrrrrgh! lol
