Hello,
My team purchased the A1 version of the 360 degree RPLidar Laser Scanner for our project. Our project is very dependent on the accuracy of the sensor. The RPLidar is listed as having a less than 0.5 mm error (or < 1% of the distance). After some testing of the sensor against a flat white wall we have found the sensor does not have this level of accuracy.
We tested the RPLidar at a distance of 1 and 3.5 meters. The tests had the robot report its minimum value over a range of angles to determine the perpendicular distance to a flat wall. The program output its measurement every 500 ms. We then collected data and graphed it. We found that the lidars reading changed over time and that it was not within the 0.5 mm accuracy. The Test results are shown in the attached excel file with different tabs for different tests. To see the angle correlated to each distance reading allow the filter on the fourth column to display 0's.
As visible in the file for the 1 meter test the data ranged from 1000 to 1017 and for the 3.5 meter test the data ranged from 3353-3488. These range of results for both these tests exceed the listed accuracy of < 1%.
I am hoping to learn if we have a defective product or if this error is common in all the RPLidars.
Thanks for the help.
