Hi, I have a 200kg button load cell that seems to have drift when no force is applied at room temperature. The temperature in the room fluctuates by ~2degF, but even so the drift is one-way. I’ve attached an Excel file with some data. I am trying to get a zero-value for the sensors with which to base my calibration for the force calculations, but it keeps drifting. Why would it do this, and can I stop it?
Note: the gap in the data is when I tried to stop and start the vi to see if anything would change. Query.xlsx (37.1 KB)
Did you log measurements for more than 50 minutes ? Can you keep it for, let’s say, 5 hours and see if the measurements continue to drift or will remain constant ?
If the measurements will remain constant after a certain time, this would be a creep and it is normal to have it when working with load cells.
The creep should be specified in your load cell’s datasheet.
Here is the definition of a load cell’s creep :
Even without a physical load attached to a load cell, the load cell is considered under load as gravity and atmospheric pressure will affect it (small variation of load).
Also, if you are measuring a 200Kg Load with this load cell, and you have a variation of 0.02Kg after 50min, this won’t really affect you measurements.
