Bad Idea: Give a Super Powerful Laser to A Robot Snake

We all certainly love robots and we are thrilled to see new advancements in robotics. However, sometimes we wonder if humans have already gone too far in their quest to make ever more capable (and dangerous) robots. The "LaserSnake" illustrates well this well:

Researchers from OC Robotics were not content enough to have developed an amazing robotic snake which can navigate tight spaces with remarkable precision, so they decides to make the robot even more bad-ass by incorporating a 5kW laser. This means the robot can now cut through metal and concrete - as shown in the video below. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Vk9tBaex0U We understand such a robot could be incredibly useful in nuclear disaster situations for instance (that is their use case) but we believe that giving a robot means to sneak everywhere and cut virtually anything is not necessarily in the best interests of humanity. What do you think? Should we be scared, amazed or both? Leave a comment below with your thoughts.
