XBEE with Droids DB9 Board - Help!

O.k. so I need help.

My set up is as follows:

1x SSC32
2x Xbee 2.5s
1x Xbee Explorer USB to my computer
1x Droids XBEE db9 connector (here is a link to the datasheet: droids.it/data_sheets/990.006%20datasheet.pdf)

So far I have set up both my XBEEs, one as a router and one as a controller. I have tested them and they seem to be working fine ie they are paired and sending information back and forth. Yet when I try to send information to the SSC32 using lynxterm…I get nothing. I.e. the green LED on the SSC32 stays lit thus it is not receiving data. I had another SSC32 up and running with a bluesmirf to ttl no problem so I don’t it is any of the common problems,(baud rates are correct, com port is correct, power is on) I’ve checked those. Here is a picture of my setup:

I know this is very little information to go off of. I will post more test results and pics tomorrow. But for starters:

  1. Has anyone used a Droids DB9 board on an SSC32 or Botboard succesfully?
  2. The stats on the droids board say that it outputs 3.3V signals. Is this too low for the SSC32 to read over the DB9? If so should I go directly to TTL? That seems to defeat the purpose of buying the nifty board…

I think the explorer board should be connected to the SSC32 or Bot Board and the DB9 to the computer. correct me if I’m wrong.

Mine are in the mail and when they arrive and I start to play with them I’ll let you know my results.

My guess is that you could do it either way. It turns out that my board had a soldering problem so they are sending me a replacement. I will keep you updated on my progress.

Hey everybody,

Update on the xbee setup. I got my new droids db9 board today. Plugged it in and it worked like a charm. Guess I just had a bum board.

For anybody else trying to pull off the same Xbee -> droids db9 -> SSC32 setup I would recommend the following:

  1. Use the following tuturial to set up your boards if you have Series 2: humboldt.edu/~cm19/XBee%20setup.pdf

  2. Connect the coordinator board to the PC using an explorer USB. Make the other Xbee a router/end device and put it in the droids board.

  3. Set up the power from the SSC32 just like my picture from the first post shows. With the 5v regulated power from the SSC32 to the power jack on the bottom of the droids board.
