Hi,
This isn’t for a robot, but in searching for particular specs for an outdoor PIR motion sensor I came across this site/forum and thought someone here might have a source or suggestion for finding what I need for a specific project.
I’m looking for an outdoor PIR motion sensor that has a fast reset time between movements triggering it and high sensitivity that will pick up small animal movement. It will be connected to an RF X10 device that triggers a treat delivery system for positive reinforcement training.
Any ideas on where I could find something like this? Most that I have found only reset after 15-30 seconds and are “pet immune” and hence don’t pick up small animals.
Thanks for any tips,
Terri
PIR sensors are usually callibrated for human detection (human body temperature) by the manufacturers. The ideal sensor would be a simple IR motion sensor as indicated by Coleman.
Phidgets Infrared Motion Sensor
Product code : RB-Phi-19
Hi Siskiyou,
Welcome to the RobotShop Forum. Tracking small animals using passive infrared is not to easy. RobotShop offers a selection of PIR, though they would need to be tested to see if they suited your needs. Consider the Phidgets infrared motion sensor which would not have any delay , but is not considered an “outdoor” sensor (though you could try to weatherproof it). You would interface this with a microcontroller which would then connect to the RF X10 device. Perhaps other members will have additional ideas and we encourage you to post your progress here.
