I would like to assemble (or buy an already assembled) a rover that can carry a Gopro into some ventilation ducts for making some inspections.
The problem is that I don’t know how to assemble a robot and also I only found radio-controlled rover kits, but I would like to control it via cable, to avoid interference and signal loss in metallic ducts (Ethernet or any other cable would be fine).
Can you suggest me a solution that is simple to assemble or which is pre-assembled and that can do for my purpose?
Many thanks in advance
Hello @Massimo and welcome to the forum!
I suggest getting a rover kit, for example the Lynxmotion Aluminum A4WD1 Rover Kit and adding a microcontroller and a motor driver.
Then you have many options to achieve wired control, you could do what you mentioned which is using an Ethernet cable, but for that you would either need a microcontroller with an ethernet port or get an ethernet shield. Another option is using a really long serial cable to send the commands to the microcontroller.
You could also do something like this:
And you don’t necessarily need to get the same parts, you could get the parts mentioned in the Lynxmotion Aluminum A4WD1 PS2 Rover Kit except for the PS2 wireless controller and instead getting the PS2 Connector Breakout Board, a PS2 wired controller and you will probably need an extension cable as well.
I hope this information can help you out!
Also, it would be great if you could share your robot it in the Robots section once you’ve finished.
Good luck with your project
