Would you be interested in a collaboration?  I’d like to get a WiiDAR service module in MRL - where the only thing that is needed is length of the arm which the laser is mounted.  It would have a nice little WiiDAR display like I did years ago (https://www.robotshop.com/letsmakerobots/node/24259), and the possiblity of stiching them together to create a SLAM map.

Yes!

I love it! I love it!

Actually, this gives me motivation to finally getting around to making a “standard” wiidar bracket out of plexi. Hell, maybe even a tutorial or something on how it works! Not a bad idea at all.

Right now, I have a few projects in front of this one, but the idea is indeed (oh geeze) -on my radar. I have another week or two just getting caught up from Maker and dealing with the post-Maker surge in orders. From there, things should settle and I will have some more time to devote to this. I will keep in touch and keep you in the loop. Great idea.

Hey Bajdi… Ah yes! The 3 extra parts…

You can consider them Cracker-Jacks prizes. They are simply parts that come out of the wiimotes when I do “harvest” and I can’t bring myself to throw them out.

One is a speaker, do speaker things with it!
One is a vibe motor, glue it to your toothbrush and make a bristle bot!

The black plastic thing is a IR shield that originally went in front of the camera. There is no tried-and-true reasoning as to when to use it. --Just play with it, see if you get better numbers with it, or without.

Beyond that, just be sure the WiiCam gets both the 3.3v and the 5v and you will be all set. If you are using an arduino, you will probably not have to add the extra resistors. --The library takes care of these i2c pull-ups internally.

Let me know if you have any other problems, my friend.

Yes sir.

The camera itself is totally 5v tolerant on the i2c lines. No level shifting required.
