Which lidar is the best for my application?

Hi, I’m looking to purchase a 2D lidar and I saw many options and I would like to have some recommendations. I want someting that will work for SLAM and objet detection. I will use it on a raspberry pi with ROS kinetic with arduino as a microcontroller.

These are the models that I found: YDlidar X4 YDlidar X2 RPlidar A1M8

They all seem very similar. Does anyone have experience with any of these brands? How is the documentation? ROS compatibility? Performance? Any other recommendations?

Thank you !

Hello @steve1245 and welcome to the RobotShop forum,

I haven’t used any of these but, if it helps, I believe the RPlidar is more popular, and looking at their documentation RPLidar’s seems more complete.

http://wiki.ros.org/rplidar

Keep in mind that these are intended for indoor use and only the RPlidar can be used outside (without direct
sunlight exposure)

However, both brands have great options for low-cost 2D LIDARs so it is really up to you.
