What type of servos do you guys use in your round hexapods ?
I have a bunch of Hitec HS-475HB servos lying around from previous projects and I was thinking of buying some more to build a round hexapod. I know that the Hitec HS-645MG servos are better but are much more expensive (double the price of the Hitec HS-475HB). Do you think that the Hitec HS-475HB are up for the job or will I be just wasting my money ?
I’m using 18 645MGs in my hexapod. It really depends on what your budget is…
At 76 oz-in, they are almost half the torque compared to that of the 645MGs… I personally would go with the 645s since you don’t have to worry much about working your servos too hard since from what I hear from others, you can almost continuously operate the *H3-Rs with 645s. The 475 would work, except they are the bare minimum for hexapods. Bare minimum means that you will have to be careful and monitor the servos and make sure you don’t blow it out by continuously operating it and having it over heat…
If I were you, I’d keep the 475HB on whatever you were using it for (the Brat?), and buy a new set of 645s and a *H3-R so that you’ll have two functioning robots to play with!
