What speed controller?

I need several speed controllers for a project I am currently working on. They all need to be able to hooked upto a standard rc receiver (pwm) and control variable both full forward and reverse.

The first one needs to be able to handle 36volt at 4.2a powering a 150w motor.

The second lot (3 units, one to power each motor) I have less requirements than the first one as I havnt got the specifications yet. I do know that the motors will be smaller than the first one with amp/watts, and will be 24 volt.

I have been looking at IFI Robotics, they have models big enough but for the second lot the unit is physically to big to fit. I would also like them to be quiet, thus no fan would definitely be a winner.

no-one?

These will be very hard to find, what your asking is a pretty damn big load. For the first one at least. However the second one is good. Here is an excellent site for motor controllers.

dimensionengineering.com

look around there its a great site

specifically though, check this motor controller out. dimensionengineering.com/SyRen25.htm

its perfecct for your specifications, rated at 24 volts and 25 amps continuous 45 amps peaked u should be able to do a lot with this, and there is alos a dual channel available if you need it

the first one is a bigger challenge and you are looking at a pretty penny to buy one of those, i’ve seen some pretty beastly ones at
robotmarketplace.com/store.html

they are pretty expensive, but since they sell things for combat robots, they have high amp rated and high voltage speed controllers

IFI Robotics has a model big enough to power the 36v motor, only downside is that it has a fan and I would like it to be silent and the physical size is to big.

fans aren’t noisy, nuff said.

Some are, the project I am working on needs to be kept as silent as possible - helps to eliminate all that I can.

The Dimension Engineering SyRen would suit perfect - I am just contacting someone now to find out the specifications for the motors.

once that is done, it will be much easier to find an ESC to suit the job.

The fan on the IFI Victor’s I use are literally silent. And can be removed and replaced with a heatsink if you are using them at less than half their current rating.

The model I would use is the IFI Victor 36HV which is rated for 120a, the power supply will be putting out only 4.2a for the motor which is rated 36v/4.2a/150w. 3.5% of full capacity…

What heatsink do you use? What is the best place to get one? I have seen them from several places and there are heaps of types, are any of them better than any other?

I’m using a Victor for 24V and it is virtually silent. With the amp loads you are going to be drawing I would think you would want the fan.
