I was just wondering. whenever it says to install a servo into the bracket, it says “standard size” servo. Does that include ALL standard sized servos? Will RoboNova’s HSR-8498HB servos work with the SES brackets? Also, a bit off topic, will RoboNova’s brackets work with SES brackets?
Robonova brackets have proprietary bolt hole patters not compatable with the SES. You might be able to find a few matches if your lucky, but then it would not make much use.
The SES will fit Hi-Tec and I think Futaba servos, but some servos will not work even though they are considered standard. There are some variations from brand to brand. Its best to use Hi-Tec for hasle free mounting.
I might be going out on a wobbly limb here, but I’m thinking that the Nova servos would work with the SES brackets.
As long as the Nova splines are the same as the other standard Hitec splines (and thus would fit on the LM aluminum horns), I’m thinking that you could get away with it with minimal modification of the servo housings.
But… If you’re wondering if they’ll fit like a glove, the answer is probably not.
I figured you might be able to mount the servo’s horns to the SES but not the servo case.
EDIT
Yep It looks like some of the brackets would bolt right up and There are servo case adapters to turn them in to regular servos. I’m not sure if these case adapters come with the Robonova or not.
The robonova brackets are made from 1mm aluminum. They can bend if you look at them wrong. The robonova was designed from the ground up to be as lightweight as possible. The 8498’s are not extremely strong, and they are not metal gears. Yes I’ve broken gears and bent brackets on my robonova.
The SES brackets are made from 1.6mm aluminum. The 5645 servos are very strong and use metal gears. Hitec is going to release a version of the 5645 with the same capabilities of the 8498 but I have no idea when this will happen.
The SES components are not interchangable with the robonova brackets without significant modification. Thems the facts…
I though I was right about the robonova brackets and servos not working but I had no real proof of this. Just by looking at the photos of the SES brackets and Robonova parts, it seemed to me there would be issues.
I’ve just made the unpleasant discovery that “standard size” Hitec servos are not really standardized, even in the placement of the mounting holes. For example, I have a HS-635HB here, and the it’s several mm shorter (from ear to ear) than the HS-300 or HS-422. It’s a big enough difference that, if the holes in the mounting bracket are similar in size to those in the servo, then I don’t see how one bracket could fit both.
Any chance there’s a definitive list of which Hitec servos are known to work?
The HS-635 is larger by a bit in every dimention compared to the 645 which fits the brackets just fine. The HS-300 is the largest, and the 422 is slightly smaller. The push in rivet fasteners allow for some leeway in these installations, as the nylon will conform, and using the 3mm hardware certainly makes it possible to fine tune the installation, meaning install the servo so the output shaft is perfectly aligned with the ball bearing mounting hole. All of the Hitec standard size servos fit well. Where you get into trouble is if you try to use a GWS, or Bluebird, there are probably others… These servos are not a little large, but way large. They are taller to accomodate the use of a much bigger (cheap) motor, where a Hitec one will use a more expensive higher RPM motor and more gear reducti0on to get more power.
