What distance sensors should I go for the range 0 to 200mm?

Hello,
I am developing an autonomous navigation robot that has its arm for cleaning the surfaces of a panel. The robot navigates using cameras/sensors and uses proximity sensors to detect any panel in its vicinity and then align itself to the panel. For this purpose, I require sensors that can sense distance from 1mm to 200mm.

Note: The robot is meant to operate in rugged environments in outdoors and is always moving.

Any suggestion for the sensor that can be useful in my case ?

Thanks

Hello @pradan and welcome to the RobotShop forum,

I suggest checking the Infrared Range Finders section of the store. A great option would be a Sharp sensor, unfortunately, I couldn’t find one that works in the range you mentioned (1-200mm), but maybe this one could work for you:

However, if you need more accuracy you may want to check the LIDAR, Laser Scanners & Rangefinders section.

Also, you may face some issues in the closest range, so a good option would be to use a proximity sensor, for example:

I hope this information can help you out

Good luck with your project!

Hey @geraldinebc15 Thanks for the prompt reply.

I think I got wrong. The sensors you suggested, detect if there is any object in front of the sensor, whereas I need the sensor to give me distance between the object and the sensor. I hope it is clearer now

Oh sorry! Yes, you are right, you need an analog sensor like this one:

However, you will not be able to detect the exact measurement below 2 cm, you can see the datasheet to appreciate the type of response you will have for these cases.
