Are you talking about DFRobotShop Rover V2 - Arduino Compatible Tracked Robot (Basic Kit)? If so, it’s a USB connection.

Hi bmoscato-

Thank you for the reply!

Yes, it’s a DFRobotShop Rover V2, basic kit.
I’ve tried three different styles of micro-USB cables I have at home, from various other uses, and none of them seems to work properly. Could you point me to an exact fit?

Thanks,

correction- none of them FIT. The shape of the plugs are not the same…

or should I purchase a DF-Bluetooth module?

I’m trying to get something up and running, in order to keep my 7 yr old’s attention - he did help build the rover, and now wants to make it move.

If the bluetooth module requires another layer of complex programming (which it kind of appears to, from the documentation) maybe I should stick to a cable. But if it’s not too difficult, and folks think it’s relatively easy to send “sketches” via bluetooth as well, it would certainly make it more useful than being tethered.

I do not own one of these kits, but it appears to be USB to Mini B Cable. Hopefully one of the Robot Shop staff can chime in and point you in the right direction.

Correct - the USB connector onboard is a Mini B, so a cable like the following would work:

Note that the basic kit (RB-Rbo-33) doesn’t include any “frills” to reduce the price as low as possible, and most people already have such a cable laying around. If you plan to purchase from RobotShop, you might consider purchasing a compatible 3.7V LiPo battery as there is a battery charger built into the board (no more AA batteries):

These fit between the gear motor and the lower axle and the battery is charged via USB. If you don’t use this, be sure not to have the LiPo charging jumper in place at the left rear of the board.

this is great information. I’ll purchase a cable and we’ll be on our way!
