So, is anyone building anything fun for Halloween? Cool decorations, costumes or animatronics?
I'm working on a candy jar skull to great trick-or-treaters at the door. The lid will open and reveal a "Take One" sign written in fake blood. The jaw is also animated and I plan to add sound and animated LED eyes.
I have my own little project which I am working away at, but let me digress.
It is not so easy impressing kids now, there is so much out there, but it was not that way in the 50’s. Back then my father had a talking pumpkin on the porch steps, that was no more than a pumpkin with a speaker in it, my father being inside with a microphone. So simple, but because no kid had seen anything like it, it caused quite a stir.
For the candy jar skull I want it to respond when someone walks up to it, Chage the eyes, move the mouth while speaking, and open the lid to offer candy.
A PIR sensor to detect when someone enters a room, then make a scary laugh and push the door close. Red leds lights up forming a face and a robotic voice says “EXTERMINATE”.
