Webcam over WiQuest’s Wireless USB Hub

Has anyone implemented a webcam over WiQuest’s Wireless USB and is it really a “plug and play” solution … or work at all?

… I’m busy to build a paintball gun turret with 2 webcams, digital outputs (for gun trigger) and A/D inputs for adhoc use. Turret control is with Dallas 1Wire chips via a USB to 1wire interface. So I basically have 3 USB devices to interface with.

I will eventually use Via’s mobile-ITX board as controller when it becomes available but for the interrim I just want some wireless USB solution.

I looked into using the WiQuest’s Wireless USB Hub, LANTRONIX WiPort,
Digi ConnectCoreâ„¢ Wi-9C and ASUS WL-500G wireless router (that has 2 x USB2 ports) … but I am not sure what is the best route to take!

Any advice will be appreciated

Be careful with remote USB device servers and A/V USB devices. A lot of these are only designed to work with printers and slow USB 1.1 type stuff. Not familliar with the particular product you list but just make sure it specifically says it will support A/V devices like webcams. FWIW, I have successfully tested using a single microsoft livecam vx 3000 with a Lantronix UBOX 2100 Ethernet USB device server (which has 2 USB ports). However this does not get you the wireless part. I have a dlink ap2100 WAP that I am planning to test with the UBOX but just have not taken the time to wire it up yet.

Thanx … sounds a bit risky to try out these devices!

Maybe I must simply use the VIA EPIA PX-Series Pico-ITX Mainboard with a WiFi dongle?

I don’t know about risky per-se, just make sure you research the product and are certain it is specified to do what you want. Any normal reputable manufacturer with real products will have a customer/tech support e-mail or phone number to call even if it takes them a couple days to get back to you. don’t rely on distributors for this kind of info unless you do a lot of business with them. remember that google is also your friend for researching other peoples experiences with whatever product you choose.
good luck.
