Water height measurement

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for a kind of sensor that gives precise (±3-4cm or ±1/8") measurement of water height without touching it. I think that an ultrasonic sensor might work and maybe some of you already used them for that kind of application. It is to be used on a lake, which means there will be waves and splashes. I’ll have to make an average with the results I’ll get, I guess.

I’m quite restricted in time and money so I would like to score on the first shot.

If some of you have some suggestion, I need a range from 10cm to 1m (4" to 3’).

Thanks

You can certainly try an ultrasonic sensor since an infrared signal may get dispersed, giving you a bad signal. We have not seen many non-contact water measuring systems where waves were involved - not sure how that will affect results. Contact measurement may be the way to go here if it’s an option.
