Wall Climber Challenge

The wall climber challenge is a challenge to make a robot which is capable of travesing a wall in a 90 degress angle to the floor. You can do this in any way as long as the robot can stay on the wall and move around for long periods of time. The wall has to be a 3 metre tall x 2 metre wide x 4cm thick of any type of wood. This can be propped up in any way as long as you can see it is a 90 degree angle. The winner will be the person using the most creativity in their design and their performance of the robot.

 


 

If it isn't working then consider

  1. How about using a magnet on the other side of the wood for your robot to be able to climb.
  2. How about mounting the robot on ropes which touch the four corners and then manipulate them to be able to reach any point.
  3. How about using lighter materials?
  4. Solar Powered
  5. Putting a small sheet of metal over the wood (Will reduce final score)
  6. *sigh* Suction cups? (Everyones done it and will rank you lowly)

Cool challange!!! Would a graplin hook or some kind work for the challange? Or maybe a grabbing arrow or something? Does it matter if the wall has an edge over it not a ceiling or something? Just curious though.

Another question…

In the rules you state that the robot must operate on a wall that is “3 metre tall x 2 metre wide x 4cm thick of any type of wood”. I was wondering if it is legal to use a larger an painted peice of wood? I have a pair of wooden closet doors that I painted with whiteboard paint, and is non-magnetic, and thought is would be fun to have a robot that could draw, follow lines and solve mazes on my closet doors.

creat a vaccume between wall and your robot, so that the robot will stuck to the wall and then give some linear or ritational motion to the robot so it can climbe the wall.
