Waht is this?!

e-gizmo.com/KIT/serbot.htm

that looks exactly like the SES, it’s the same hexapod, and it’s BRAT too!!! What is this?

they are accualy trying to sell this… gahhh

Good find!

If I were Jim, I would be raizing hell. :imp:

Man some nerve!

Did you see this?

e-gizmo.com/PRODUCT/ROBOT/bracket.htm

I wonder if this clown used the 3D models found on the LM website and made minor changes.

The sad part is, Jim probably can’t do anything about it. An rc company, Unlimited Engineering, makes top notch T-Maxx parts and had the same problem. They developed a Racer-X suspension, which was copied by a Chinese company, Integy. The UE suspension has tons of R&D put into it, whereas Integy changed the design a tad, and UE can do nothing about it. UE top, Integy bottom.

Edit I give up on trying to get the pics to work. Click the link!

Well look at this comparrison:

Lynxmotion:

yeah! I saw that, that’s hy at the begining I thought maybe they were just showing it to inspire, but they actualy sell it.

it probably, the general bracket, the only diference is the slanted back, and the C bracket is the small holes, same size though  this is :imp:

Jrdrag 3991 is pretty much right. Jim really cant do anything about it.

The SES set when you look at is just a bunch of brackets. I work at a 4-slide shop and if a person takes the time to make the tools/dies for each piece and then try to recover the costs they can.

I cant tell you how many jobs we have lost that went overseas. Main reason is its cheaper to make and in return thats what you get cheaper parts.

Look at all the humanoid robots they are pretty much based of the Hitec model cant remeber the name. Just a little different one to another.

Paul

I say we go on a covert operation and “teach” these guys a few things

:smiling_imp:

erm, none of u heard that :unamused:

but yea, thats pretty bs, thats basically the same exact thing…except yucky and cheaper looking :imp:

That is definitely is a direct replica of the SES brackets. The hex and brat even look like the lynx ones. But in reality, there is not much you can do about it. Especially where they are located.

The reality of it is, that Jim has built a reputation for his company and that will follow him everywhere. They won’t be stealing many sales from Jim. And few odd people they sell to locally would probably not have purchased a few brackets from lynx anyways due to the high import costs.

Really, we should just sit back and laugh that this clown doesn’t have enough brains to design something himself.

And replication is the greatest form of flattery.

LMAO

omg, i just saw something on the website that made me absolutley die, look in the top right of the websit link that Mike provided omg
im dying
XD

“To invent you need a good imagination and a pile of junk” Thomas Edison

that is friggin silly, perfect follow up to evo’s post

Yeah! I saw that one too! It gave me a laugh! pfff, imagination!

I guess Jim should take it like that evo, but I find it anoying calling it their own. I also know that he could probably not do anything even if they were in the US.

If the SES were ever pattented than maybe you could have somewhat of an argument to put forward. Though it would be silly to go through the hassel, especially the long distance, it would go into international laws afterwards. Even than I don’t see a case that could actually be won.

Evo’s right. This guys most likely working out of his parent’s basement selling knock of lynxmotion products to his buddies with half a brain.

lynxmotion rocks - nuff said :unamused:

they sell tower pro servos… so not only do you have cheap knock off brackets but your creation looks like has parkinsons.

he wishes!

Perhaps you guys should do a realiy check. If you go to the top of the forum you will find the customer feedback area. The big gripe there is from persons in foreign countries that are limited in building robots due to no local parts source available and extremely high shipping and customs fees when importing them. If this is the case, one can suck it up and pay the price, or one can get motivated and start a business making the parts locally. These guys are located in the Philippines and I don’t see info on shipping to the US. Perhaps they found a way to make robot building more affordable for the residents of their country. Below is a currency converter so the prices can be compared.

That doesn’t give someone the right to straight up copy a product and start selling it as their own.

Patenting the SES brackets would be a waste of time. In my opinion. You could patent the idea, but to patent some bent aluminum with holes drilled in it. Good luck with that.

And patenting would only cover you where ever you got the patent for. Be it Canada, US, etc. To patent something worldwide, not something I would even want to consider. Being the reason why most clones come from China. Ever try to get a patent in China? Read up about it.

Jim has his reputation to back him. And instead of copying Jim’s products and trying to pass them off as his own, he should have because a distributer or possibly, I don’t know, came up with his own idea. Maybe invented something original? Made the brackets look a little bit more different?

This is a fairly typical scenario and it’s a shame but like I said, replication is the greatest form of flattery. No one copies crap.

An interesting observation:
A banner at the bottom of their web page proclaims them to be a member of the Original Equipment Manufacturer’s Association of the Philippines. Looking at the OEMAP website’s member list, there is nothing to indicate that they are actually a member of that organization (no company name, phone number, or email matches, etc.).

Not particularly surprising - but interesting.

Maybe they are reading this thread since the banner seems to be gone. I can’t find it anyways.

It’s still at the bottom of their home page]

Apparently I’m blind. LOL Thanks.

Thanks for the heads up on this. I’ve seen it before, I’m not worried about them. Their brackets seem to be much thinner than mine, and they don’t use ball bearings. The only thing I don’t agree with is the idea that this is acceptable because of international shipping costs. Ridiculous, that’s why we have distributors…
