VTail Payload Capacty

Hello, I’m new to the forum and considering pulling the trigger on a Vtail 400 or 500. Does anyone have any experience with putting payloads on their VTail? Whats a realistic amount and still have reasonable control? Which one has more capacity compared to each other? Seems like a basic question but I’m having a hard time finding any info.

I like the VTails because they seem more “open” to modifications and add-on/customization than other drones out there, but I think the VTail design will reduce payload capacity. I’d just like to get rough idea of what to expect, could you mount a GoPro on a 400 or even a Mini? Assume T-Motor Combo Kit with a small battery if needed.

My main requirements are payload and small size. I’d like something small but still able to carry something on the order of a gopro (~4 oz) and a few PCB boards and be controllable.

Thanks

Hi greenspan,

Welcome to the RobotShop/Lynxmotion forum…!

If you want to carry a GoPro or similar, i would suggest a 400 or 500 version as the Mini is quite… Mini…
Since the 500 version can accommodate larger propeller, it will be the one that can carry the more weight but payload tests are not done yet.

Many people have fly them with a GoPro up front and it fly just fine. Adding weight to the front is a good thing as the center of gravity is made for that.

The VTail 500 base kit would do the job, they are high quality motors too.

All the best,

Out of curiosity, is there any chance of getting a bracket kit of some sort from Lynxmotion for mounting a GoPro on it? It’s a common enough camera it might be worth offering it as kit.

At some point I want to put a camera on mine, but I have no clue how I’m going to end up mounting it.

I did a plate in the past which was fixed.
This could be done quite fast and available online for people who need it.

I’d probably be interested in one down the line. In my case, it’d probably be a while.

Ideally I’d love to see something where you can adjust the angle of it. Though I can’t fathom anyone wanting to motorize that, just something you could assemble for different angles. Straight ahead, straight down, and an angle between the two or something.
