Vex IQ kit ports in brain and remote link not working

I purchased a Vex Robotics kit recently for my son. We initially thought a motor wasn’t working but we’ve troubleshooted it down to 2 of the ports in the brain do not work (all the others do). We did a firmware update and those ports are not visible when you connect to the update. Also, the Controller only works when tethered and will not establish a remote connection. Should we just return the whole thing or part of it? I’ve followed all the steps on the Vex IQ site to troubleshoot both of these issues with no resolutions. Please advise?
