Very smooth movement...what servo?

Hi All happy to be here…I’m looking for a servo which can move as smoothly as possible because its going to move a camera…the servo controller is in the Betaflight open source code coming from the flight controller…anyone have any ideas/suggestions pref as small as possible?

@SupaflyGuy Welcome to the RobotShop Community. Most modern camera gimbal systems use gimbal motors, which are higher torque, lower speed BLDC motors, which work great fr smoothness. RC servos tend not to be as smooth, and (personally) not aware of any which are considered “very smooth” (any moreso than others). Brushless & digital servos tend to be better, and choosing a higher torque servo than you need will ensure it struggles less.

Thanks for the response. Yes you are right about BLDC gimbal motors. I am choosing servos because my main control board has the ability to plug in a servo which means less mass and space of the extra control board with the BLDC gimbal. Also a servo can be lighter than the neccessary power BLDC motor to move the mass of the camera I use. I’ve heard the LDX 218 Hiwonder servo is smooth and I’m trying to understand if and why they are smooth enough, and if there are smaller but equally as smooth options…this Hiwonder servo is a robotics servo (rather than RC) so I thought perhaps the robotics community might know some answers here…thanks in advance!

You can often control a BLDC with an ESC, which connects to an RC output. They come in fairly small sizes / weights. A smart servo with RC input:

sorry Im confused - is this item you linked a smooth BLDC servo with integrated esc?

Negative. The link above is to a smart servo motor which can also be operated via RC and has some nice configurations which might make the motion smoother for you. the BLDC motor option + ESC would be something else.
